Yes, you can switch to Windows 10 Pro easily at any time through the Windows Store. Switching to Pro is one-way. If you make the switch, you won't be able to go back to Windows 10 S. The switch is free of charge indefinitely.

TL;DR: Maybe possible at some point. Not now at least, but I don't recommend it if you're an enthusiast or student.The long answer: Windows S is Microsoft's Operating System answer to a cheaper market for non-computer-enthusiasts.It's meant for people who don't know much about computers to have an experience with less worrying about viruses.I doubt battery life can really be brought down a lot compared to a standard install with very few deamon programs.Windows S is simply limited normal Windows, which can't run all the standard programs you can download from the Web (which is the only real reason I am still using Windows at all - Linux and OS X are in my opinion way superior - especially privacy-wise - if they had more software).I doubt you really want to run Windows S on any standard PC, since it is just a downgrade from straight-up Windows.To get the experience of Windows S today, just disable all Apps but these from the Store and uninstall all browsers except Edge and set your search engine to Bing. With normal Windows, you can tweak anything to get the most performance and battery life. Windows S has no selling points for enthusiasts or engineering/arts students.However, for your grandparents or just about any inexperienced user, Windows S may be a very good thing, since it is a sandbox and will keep your system running without maintenance.
