Like all the volumes in the Essentials of Psychological Assessment series, each concise chapter features numerous callout boxes highlighting key concepts, bulleted points, and extensive illustrative material, as well as test questions that help you gauge and reinforce your grasp of the information covered. Providing an in-depth look at dyslexia, this straightforward book presents information that will prepare school psychologists, neuropsychologists, educational diagnosticians, special education teachers, as well as general education teachers, to recognize, assess, and provide effective treatment programs for dyslexia. The book is also a good resource for parents who are helping a child with dyslexia. A practical guide to understanding, assessing, and helping individuals who have dyslexia Expert advice and tips throughout Conveniently formatted for rapid reference Other titles in the Essentials of Psychological Assessment series: Essentials of Assessment Report Writing Essentials of School Neuropsychological Assessment Essentials of Evidence-Based Academic Interventions Essentials of Response to Intervention Essentials of Processing Assessment Essentials of Conners Behavior Assessments Essentials of Cross-Battery Assessment, Second Edition Essentials of WISC-IV Assessment, Second Edition Review: Tell me everything I should know to be informed... - I have to commend Mather and Wendling on taking the magnitude of information that is known about dyslexia and formatting it into an accessible and practical guide. Let me clearly state for the previous reviewer who believes that a learning disability impacting the core skills involved in reading is somehow not dyslexia, that their definition of dyslexia is not the one widely accepted by the field of professionals who research in reading disabilities. Dyslexia is a very broad term defining a neurobiological disorder[a learning disability] that impairs a person's ability to read and can manifest itself as a difficulty with phonological awareness, phonological decoding, orthographic coding, auditory short-term memory, rapid naming, etc. As stated by Mather and Wendling, dyslexia is a learning disability that impacts the ability to decode (read) and encode (spell). I am a 20 year teacher of students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities, the mother of an adult son with dyslexia, and a Ph.D. who teaches and researched in dyslexia and other reading disorders. IMHO, the authors hit a homerun with this book - it does exactly what it says - provides practical information in an easy to read format that will benefit laypersons, teachers, and related service providers. It is on my shelf, will be in my classrooms, and on every recommended bibliography in my undergraduate and graduate literacy and assessment classes I teach. Review: Great Resource - Wow this book had more than I expected. I am a professional and found this book not only informative but also filled with great resources and tips. This is a quality made book that sites all the information provided. It is based on research and not just someones opinion. These resources listed in the book each have a lot of information provided about each one. Very beneficial when trying to find materials to use with students.

Must Have for Dyslexia Info!
Ordered this book for grad class on dyslexia. It has become a great resource! My teaching colleagues have borrowed to read up on this topic. Mine has so many post-it notes hanging out bc I refer back to it often. Easy to read and applicable for the "real" classroom.

A great resource, especially for reading and special ed teachers
A great resource, especially for reading and special ed teachers. It is a bit outdated in some of the information (how the brain reads and IDEA laws). Overall, worthwhile.
