Is this set compatible with the duplo train from 30 years ago?

Hi there! Our DUPLO® train cars have always been made to hook together in the same way, so you can connect this to an older train. The only thing to keep in mind is that some of our older trains (from before we made DUPLO track) have wider wheels, which won't be compatible with every type of track piece. Do the roofs flip up for easy access to the passenger car and/ or engine? Is it possible to put Duplo figures easily in the passenger car?

Yes- our 5 year old has easy access to load and unload his passengers. This product is well designed for the most part.
