This really is not a preamp, but rather a simple box to allow you to plug in a phone type of jack input as on most guitar cables into this box and then use a XLR type of cable as on most microphone cables as an output into your PA system. There are similar products that are "active" "Direct Boxes" that offer the feature of a preamp...they will give you the boost you are looking for from your passive pickup. I could use this device exactly the way I wanted to. Which is to Plug in the speaker output of a 5 watt tube amp and get the sound of both the preamp tube AND the output tube. I have the attenuator at 20db so that I can take the the signal into a mixer and/or a USB audio interface without fear of blowing everything up. The Pyle has the feature of the 20db attenuator but the signal is all garbled at that setting. Finally, I can do what I intended!
