This trash can has been a life saver for us. We adopted a dog that had been starved and neglected and needless to say, he is pretty obsessive about food, food smells, etc. He also has severe food allergies so he can't eat a morsel of something outside his strict diet. After he got into the trash a few weeks ago, we decided to try this trash can to keep him out of the garbage. So far, he hasn't gotten into the garbage with this can. Its well built, sturdy and reliable with the locking mechanism. Our traditional trash bags fit the can well and it is well made. Highly recommend this product to keep your trash locked. Is great for pets and children.

It’s been kicked, thrown down stairs, and knocked over countless times; yet it’s still just as functional now as it was when it first arrived. I don’t think I realized just how high quality simple human was before I bought it. I remember thinking it was a good price considering the functionality and aesthetics, and that maybe I could get 1-3 years out of it. But more than 5 years later, it’s still my daily (kitchen) trash can. That said, it does have scuffs, and some of the silver paint on locking mechanism has worn off some (probably from being kicked down the stairs a dozen times.) But for $50 this trash can is a steal for the quality. I know some will think that even $50 is too much for a trash can, but it’s certainly worth it. It’s ergonomic, it’s practical, and it always works as intended. It’s especially easy to clean too. Considering the build quality, functionality, and practicality of this trash can; I highly recommend it. It’s nice having such a well made trash can that is high quality, and that has a fashionable aesthetic. But best of all, is not having to concern yourself with taking the utmost care of it. You can just forget about it for 5 years, treat it extremely poorly, and it’ll still be working great. 👍I only reviewed this now after I began renovations on my home, and I decided to check the date when I’d bought the can out of curiosity. After realizing the quality of it, I decided to buy a new simple human trash can. It’s the slightly bigger (55L) matte black step can. The new step can was $200, but after the rough 5 years that this wonderful trash can has spent with me, and my family, I have enough confidence in the quality that the $200 will no doubt be worth it.

This is the best trash can I’ve ever owned! I love the durability of it assembling was a breeze! I don’t have pets, but the locking mechanism definitely works. If you’re looking for a decent trashcan, look no further! You won’t regret it! Also on another side note anyone who’s had a trash can that flips open they tend to get food stuck in the lid where it connects to the can but not this one you don’t have that problem. It’s worth every cent.

So, funny story. I bought this because my husky somehow BROKE my other trash can by stepping on the pedal too hard while the lid was locked. And he did that because he wanted to dig for trash. He also has a bad habit of knocking over trash cans to get into them. So my solution was to buy a trash can with sturdier lid locking mechanism, and to place 2 heavy bricks on the bottom of it. So far, so good! He hasn't knocked this one over. Anyway, onto the product.Pros:- Aesthetically, the design is nice.- Silent lid operation. Now this one surprised me. I didn't even know the trash can had this feature until I tried it out and the lid gently closed down. Amazing. No more funky smells getting aired out as the lid closes. Plus it just seems so.. elegant.- The slide lock is super strong. Like, almost too secure. See cons list for more details.- Good quality. I was afraid my bricks would eventually damage it, but I've had this trash can for awhile now and it's holding up just fine.Cons:- Price. Well, you can also see it as an investment in quality I guess.- Might have to experiment with different trash bags to get the right fit for the unique shape.- The slide lock is difficult to push and pull. It makes it super secure, but dang does it make a loud sound when I slide it shut! And to get it open I can't just use one hand (not even with the bricks weighing the trash can down). I have to hold the trash can with my other hand to slide the lock open or else I'll just drag the entire trash can. That's how secure it is.- While it seems like the trash can will fit nicely against walls, you actually have to leave some space for the lid. When the lid opens, it pushes the wall and the trash can outwards if you don't leave some space between the trash can and the wall. I hope the product team will deal with this eventually.Still, in comparison to other brands, which I've had my fair share of experience with, this one truly stands out. I've tried those with motion sensors, and while they feel futuristic, nothing beats the reliability of a simple step mechanism. Plus, those sensors can get finicky and don’t even get me started on battery replacements.

We are loving this trash can! The fact that there is a lock on the lid to keep nosy pups out of trash can diving was a great idea and so needed!! Thank you! The material is super sturdy and heavier than I expected. Not like a normal plastic trash can usually is. This has more space in it too and there is a wall saver on the back.

Lid closes quietly and the entire unit is just sturdy and made to last. Priced right. I've had bad experiences with stainless steal trash cans since they dent easily, so it's plastic trash cans like these from here on out.

I love the brand, always a quality product! I bought this as a gift for someone as a starter Simple Human, it’s one of the lower priced trash cans and it’s very well made. No smell, holds trash well!
