4L Electric Composter for Kitchen, Smart Countertop Compost Bin

This Ouaken composter has been great purchase for our household. A family member had recommended it to us. It reduces our food waste, especially fruit and vegetable scraps, to nice compost for our yard and garden. For over a year, we have run it once or twice a week and it has performed perfectly. It's very easy to use, empty, and clean, and looks good in our kitchen. The lid fits tightly to ensure there are no odors as scraps are collected. We have reduced our household waste and are getting nice compost thanks to this composter. We're super happy that we bought this Ouaken composter and highly recommend it.

We have had this composter for over a year and I genuinely love it. We live in the mountains and have one bag of trash for our entire household every other week because the compost takes care of so much waste. We put light paper products, vegetable, fruits, and even meat scraps in and it leaves a small, dry paper-like product we add to our larger outdoor compost. It has a small footprint. It’s not loud but we typically run it in the day when we’re at work so it doesn’t keep us up as it beeps when it’s done.

Update: After about 8 months the nonstick started rubbing off, then compost started sticking to the sides near the blades. After 9 months I could no longer use the chop setting as the rotating blades would get jammed with the compost that was stuck everywhere. This is a quality issue, as I used the cleaner function faithfully per the instructions, and never ever let metal in the composter. I also limited the compost material to vegetables, very shredded paper towel rolls, paper towels. No pits, sticks or other hard/sharp items, no meat, no bones, just veg and paper. I wanted it to last. The hardest thing I put in were carrot ends which were 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. So I changed the review to 3 stars, since the replacement bucket is almost $70, and I would need about 3 every 2 years. For now I am just using the ferment setting, it heats the compost and seems to make it get jammed much less often, but you have to run each load 2 or 3 times to remove all the moisture. When it begins to consistently jam in ferment I'm going to toss it. Original review: Can't give it 5 stars because if you load the machine and go straight to ferment, the results and not dirt as some reviews and the description would have you believe. Not even close. Coffee filters/cardboard, egg shells and any paper products will be readily identifiable. I even added bokashi to the container and yes I torn the cardboard, coffee filters and paper towels into 1 to 2 inch squares. Now I still gave it 4 stars because if you use the chop setting first, you can chop about three loads then combine them all in the machine and use ferment...now we're talking. Still not dirt, but more the consistency of light fluffy peat moss. Definitely suitable to add directly to your soil. The chop setting takes about 8-12 hours, while the ferment is close to 24 hours. I would give it 3.5 stars because the carbon filters are pricy. $39 for one which lasts 1000 hours they say. So that's about a month and a half if you do one ferment a day or 3 months if you chop and ferment. I can by organic fertilizer/compost for less. You don't need new filters to make it work, and if it starts emitting odors that get annoying I will just run it in the garage. So over all I'm still glad I bought it, if for no other reason than it lowers my carbon footprint. I have solar power so the electricity is irrelevant.

This thing is so cool! I've been wanting one for a while and I finally did it and I'm so glad I did. No more stinky piles of vegetables and no more fruit flies! Super easy to use, just watch out to not put anything very hard in there that can jam the cutters. It is a little on the large side but I put it in my garage so it doesn't take up space in my kitchen. I thought it was really neat that the book tells you what ratios to put in depending on what kind of compost do you want to make. I haven't experimented with that but it's definitely on my list. Overall I'm pretty happy with this purchase and I am looking forward to making more beautiful compost.

We bought this composter July 2025. Its been working great. Most of the time it creates a Mulch type dust. Its easy to empty into a bucket we have to use in the garden. Occasionally it comes out sticky and cam get stuck in the bottom. When that happens I get out as much as I can and the. Fill with water. Set to clean and then it just dumps out. It has a vinegar smell while its working. So if youre sensitive to that I would put it somewhere that it wont bother you as much. We have ours directly on the kitchen counter. The smell doesnt bug us. A week ago it stopped working. It would turn on and heat up but the thing that turns the blade stopped turning. Of course it was just a few weeks after the 1 year mark. I contacted the company hoping they would help me. They asked for video of it not working. Asked for video of the inside without the bucket in it to help determine if it was the machine or the bucket. After realizing it was the machine they said they would send me a new one. The customer service was fantastic. Many companies would have said oh well its past the year mark. But they are sending me a new machine. Hopefully this one lasts longer than a year. We use it about once a week for a family of 5. Highly recommend both the machine and the company.

I’ve had my Ouaken composter for about a year now and use it pretty much every day. I honestly love it! It makes dealing with food scraps so much easier, and I love that I’m not just throwing all that waste in the trash. Instead, I get something I can use in my garden, which makes me feel like I’m doing a little something good for the environment too. It’s easy to use and has become a part of my daily routine. But what really impressed me was the customer support. After a year of heavy daily use, I had an issue with the machine. I contacted them expecting the usual back-and-forth, but they were incredibly helpful and worked with me to get the issue resolved. I really appreciated how responsive and caring they were. I’ve been happy with this composter. It is convenient to use and works well for processing kitchen food waste. After several months of use, a part in the bucket broke and the composter stopped working properly. I contacted Quaken customer service, and they responded quickly and arranged a replacement bucket under warranty. The replacement arrived much sooner than expected, and after installing it, the composter is working properly again. I’m especially impressed with the customer service and how smoothly they handled the warranty issue. It’s reassuring to know that the company stands behind its product. Overall, I’m very satisfied with both the composter and the support I received.

I have wanted an electric composter for a long time, so I did research, read customer reviews and consumer reports before settling on the Ouaken electric composter. While there are a lot of options and brands available, I chose this one because of the many positive reviews, consumer reports, good price and features other brands do not have. The 4 litre bucket size is the largest I could find within a reasonable price range. I can fit a ton of kitchen scraps into it and only have to run the composter once to clean them all up. This model also has a self cleaning feature that I did not see in any other brand. The glass top allows you to view the composting process as it happens. It's amazing how quickly a full bucket of food scraps turns into a small amount of grounds at the bottom of the bucket. The composter is easy to set up and the instruction manual informative. I would have appreciated more information on what items can and cannot be used in the composter. They do not have a website with this information, but you can email their customer service if you have a question about a specific item. They respond quickly and are helpful. I have used the composter several times on various types of food scraps and each time it took between 3 and 4 hours to process a full bucket. The compost is consistently dry, clean and finely ground. There is no offensive smell. The composter turns off automatically when the process is completed. It's best to let it cool down before opening the lid, as it gets quite hot. You also want to sit your composter where it has open space all around it, for safety, given how hot it gets. I followed the recommendation to add browns to my greens for a well balanced compost. I have been using finely shredded paper from my paper shredder and it works perfectly. I've also added used paper towels and napkins, which also worked well. The machine is extremely quiet, even at night when there is no other noise. I saw in the customer reviews that some people complained about the lid not fitting. I do not see how it can be an issue, as you just need to line up the arrow and turn the lid to open and close it. The lid fits securely and is easy to operate. I had also read some people experienced the composter jamming. If you do not put unreasonably large chunks of food in the composter, it will not jam. I have not experienced any jamming, even with a full bucket. I have avoided putting in large items like apple cores or corn cobs. I do not eat meat, so I did not try to process bones. The composter has a warranty, so don't forget to follow the instructions in the manual and register your warranty by emailing the company your Amazon order number. I do not have any concerns or complaints about the composter. It has exceeded my expectations. The only quirk I have found is that when you open the lid, the power comes on automatically. This is helpful if you are going to use the machine at the time, but if you are just putting some scraps in there for later, you have to manually turn the machine off. Not a big deal, just a quirk I noticed. Overall, I highly recommend the Ouaken electric composter with the 4 litre bucket. I wish I had gotten this sooner, when I was canning food from my garden. UPDATE: I experienced some technical difficulties with my composter, so I contacted the company for assistance. They were amazing. Initially they provided detailed instructions on how to overcome the issue, but when that did not work, they offered me a new composter, shipped immediately. I have had occasion to contact the company with other questions, and they always responded quickly and provided the information needed. Superior customer service consistently provided by Ouaken.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but this little machine genuinely deserves one. The Ouaken electric composter has completely changed how I deal with kitchen waste. It’s tidy, fast, and surprisingly quiet - I honestly can’t imagine going back to a regular food caddy now (which I also bought from Amazon). It reduces waste dramatically and turns it into dry, odour-free compost in just a few hours. I was sceptical at first, but it actually works exactly as described. Even onion peels and leftovers are gone by the next morning. The smell control is excellent – no weird odours at all (carbon filter system clearly does its job) Build quality is solid and it looks quite smart on the counter, not like some bulky bit of equipment you want to hide away. Our kitchen is relatively small/moderate size so it was quite important that it's not bulky. The bucket lifts out easily and can go straight in the dishwasher, which makes it very handy. I also like that it tells you when the filter needs changing. It’s quiet enough to run at night (you can barely hear it), and it doesn’t give off any heat or steam. I’ve noticed my kitchen bin hardly needs emptying anymore, which feels great from both a convenience and environmental point of view. To conclude, it does exactly what it promises, and does it brilliantly. Super easy to use, very clean, no smell, no fuss. If you cook regularly and care about reducing waste, this is a fantastic buy.
