I take medication that leaves me with a dry mouth, so use this before I go out to help keep the saliva flowing. It certainly seems to help. I was hesitant about adding the sachet of flavouring, as I'm not keen on strong minty mouthwashes, so I added it very gradually, and eventually added the whole sachet. I wouldn't say it's minty at all, but it does improve the flavour of the rinse. I also use the Retardex Oral Spray, which is a great product.

Months of use and the benefits are clear
Really good product here. I've been using it for a few months and it's made a difference to my obsession of oral health! The flavour does take a little getting used to and I keep it in the fridge to give it a bit of a kick in the morning. Oh, use after brushing to get the best effect, I use a strong mint toothpaste like colgate along with the peppermint flavour of the rinse. Overall I've found retardex worth using and will continue to buy it.

This works
I bought this for my husband and it works very well, continuing to work long after the bottle is empty.

Odd name, odd taste
By the company's own admission (see their website), RetarDEX isn't perhaps the best brand name they could have picked, but to their credit it is a fair abbreviation of what the rinse supposedly does - expertly retards the growth of plaque by killing the bacteria that cause it. The company also claims that the rinse can whiten your teeth and eliminate bad breath. I held off writing this review until I'd been using the rinse for almost a month, to give it a fair crack of the whip, and this worked out as enough time to get through one 250ml bottle with single, daily use. And therein lies one problem, because neither the box nor the bottle say just when or how often the RetarDEX should be used. Both state how to measure out a single dose - by somewhat awkwardly pouring it between the closely-spaced outer and inner sections of the bottle cap's inside - but neither gives the best time to use it, so I went with the tried-and-tested method of once a night after brushing. Having got past the awkward measuring method (by using a measuring cup that I got with another bottle of rinse, as it happens), my initial thought on the RetarDEX was just how bland it was. It comes unflavoured but you do get a small sachet of peppermint-tasting liquid that you can add to the bottle before use if you'd prefer. I have to confess that I didn't try it without the additive, but even with it the taste was still quite dull. I also found that the rinse didn't foam quite as well as some others I've tried, which may give some people the impression that it wasn't quite as effective. That impression is, of course, entirely subjective, as many studies have claimed that foaming agents have no effect on the quality of the clean but they do trick our minds into thinking that foam must be more thorough, and therefore better. After each use of the RetarDEX, I can`t honestly say that my mouth felt any cleaner that it had done before I used it; in fact, the lack of flavour actually took away some of the fresh, minty taste two minutes' worth of brushing had put in to my mouth. After finishing the bottle, my teeth didn't look any whiter, nor did they feel any healthier, or cleaner, than they had done before I began using it, and never having had bacterial problems in the past, it's a little difficult for me to say just how effective its plaque-destroying properties are. It may well work wonders at some microscopic level, and it's on that assumption that I have based my score, but that didn't translate to any visible improvement, at least not in my mouth.

Underwhelming
I don't often use mouthwashes, but as I do like using them once in a while I was excited to try this out and see what I thought. To be honest I'm not even sure how to review this or what to say because I just feel quite underwhelmed about the product. When you receive it it does tell you that you can use it as it is or if you want to you can add a sachet to flavour it. I thought that in itself was quite strange so the most natural thing seemed to add the sachet to it which I did. The thing I like about mouthwash is the strong taste of it because it is so refreshing and you feel like it is/has been effective in freshening your breath etc. However, even after adding the sachet I just never got that refreshing "wow" feeling I usually get whenever I have used mouthwash in the past. I just felt very disappointed by it and after a week or so stopped using it because it felt pointless like I may have just been swilling my mouth with water. There was a hint of the flavouring to it in my opinion and it "kind of" smelled like mouthwash but I just couldn't shake the feeling that I was wasting my time and haven't bothered with it since. I don't think it was powerful enough for my liking - it is too subtle in my opinion, but this may be to someone else's liking. Maybe I should have persevered but who knows. I am sure one of the fundamental things with a mouthwash is that your mouth should feel noticeably cleaner and your breat fresher after using it and so on but I just didn't really think it did an awful lot and I certainly think it is over-priced. I'm afraid it's not a product I would go out of my way to recommend.

Didn't work for me
I found the claims for this mouthwash didn't hold water (excuse the pun) when I tried it. It claims to neutralise volatile sulphur compounds (VSCs), just the kind of thing which gives me bad breath after eating garlic or onions. Yesterday I made a casserole and used garlic to flavour it. I used the mouthwash as instructed before going to bed. I woke up in the middle of the night with garlic breath as usual. That's a big fail on the claims made in my view. As well as not working, the product is over packaged - it comes in a cardboard box wrapped in plastic. I also had problems measuring out the liquid as instructed - you have to pour it between the outer and inner parts of the lid, which is quite a narrow space. Why not just have a normal cap with a measuring line on the lid like other manufacturers of this kind of thing manage to do? It's also relatively expensive compared with similar products on the market. One to avoid in my view. Having given this product a low rating, I'm fully expecting lots of negative votes. However, I'm prepared to stand by what I've said and speak as I find.

Doesn't set your mouth on fire like some top brands do
My wife doesn't like strong peppermint flavour mouth washes and is finally content on using this product. You have the option to add the minty flavour which doesn't really make an aweful lot of difference. All I can say is that when you first slosh it around your mouth it feels as though it is just water. When you spit it out you get a very mild milton fluid type taste which I guess is the floride, but it's not unpleasant. It works and if you can introduce further protection to your teeth and gums and eliminate bad breath it's a bonus to you and a loss to your dentist.

A 30 second swoosh around is all it takes
I do not habitually use a mouthwash as they are nearly always very strong tasting and somewhat mouth-drying due to the alcohol content. This is different. RetarDex is flavourless, has no alcohol and - I was delighted to see - no artificial sweetener. (For those who prefer the strong minty taste there is a sachet you can add to the whole bottle.) After being to the dentist and having my teeth polished I believe the mouthwash is helping to keep them whiter. It claims to remove food, drink and tobacco stains with constant use. I would use this again and would recommend it to others.
