Can this be used to amplify a microphone

I would expect it to work fine. The output level of a microphone is comparable to that of a record deck cartridge. The input jack of the amplifier is a stereo minijack so could take two mics. Please remember to connect both output channels to avoid possible damage to the amplifier, even if you are only connecting one mic.

Would this be ok to make a little amp for a cigarbox guitar and run off a 9volt battery.

Yes but the volume will be dependent on.the output from.the guitar. If it is an acoustic with an active output it will have plenty of headroom. However, if it is a passive electric the pickups may not prodice enough of a signal to drive the input to level that you may want, but at the price they are you have very little to lose.

how does this item work ? do i simply connect to my hifi and speaker output ? and what is a power connector mentioned in another question of this item

I connect two garden speakers to the output. And a 3.5mm phono to the input. I have this connected to a outdoor projector for halloween / Xmas. The power is a micro mini JST connector.
