Both items were able to secure the ends on my wire rim prescription glasses, but the Croakies are a little tighter and grip more firmly. However, I must have a "pin head," because I couldn't get the Chums to tighten up enough to secure the glasses against my face. As pointed out in another comment about the Chums you may need to order a smaller size for them to work properly. I like the Croakies and the tail doesn't present any problems for me. Plus, they're more convenient to adjust compared to the no tail Chums. Here is the amazing thing though: the one I had lasted FIFTEEN YEARS! I bought my original one in 1996. I lived in England and was on vacation in Las Vegas. I splashed out on a nice pair of sunglasses (Hobie, polarized, classic Ray-Ban Wayfarer shape - like the Blues Brothers). Five years later I moved to Houston TX. Since then, my Hobies - with the CROAKIES MICRO SUITERS still attached - have been my 'go to' glasses when I ride my bicycle. The CROAKIES MICRO SUITERS finally broke a few weeks ago, and I replaced them with an Academy brand eyeware retainer. I mean, c'mon, now, an eyeware retainer is an eyeware retainer, right? What's so difficult about that? Well, I was spoiled. 15 years with a CROAKIES MICRO SUITERS is like 15 years driving a Ferrari (except *reliable* ;-). After that length of time with a product you fail to appreciate just HOW GOOD it is. Until you have to replace it. My sunglasses, without a retainer (or with the Academy retainer) just don't fit as well - and then don't stay in place when I'm sweating buckets out on the bike. I never rode with the retainer cord tightened up - but the fabric of the CROAKIES MICRO SUITERS gripped right behind my ears and held my glasses firmly in place in the Texas heat. Now that my CROAKIES MICRO SUITERS is gone, I appreciate that the excellent fit wasn't a due to the sunglasses - it was due to the CROAKIES MICRO SUITERS. Over the ensuing years I have been through about 4 or 5 pairs of polarized Oakleys, and a few different retainers, and gues what?
