Great mirror
Great mirror. Bright, good size. Clean simple look. I tried several others that were cheaper, not bright enough, Ugly plug in and too big. This hits the sweet spot.

Amazing Mirror
I was replacing a wired 3 x mirror and wanted to use the existing electrical box/switch already in place next to my vanity. I tried the rechargeable version of this mirror and was really impressed. Although my old mirror is a Brot mirror which is often considered to be the absolute best, I found the light quality of the simplehuman to be vastly superior. I ordered a new Brot in the same magnification as the simplehuman and did a side-by-side comparison when it arrived. The clarity of the simplehuman matched the Brot but the quality of the light was multiples of the Brot. After using the simplehuman for a few weeks, I felt like I needed a flashlight every time I went to the Brot to apply makeup. I was very happy to find this wired version of the simplehuman mirror and happily got rid of the wall-mount Brot. The motion sensor is thoughtfully placed on the bottom of the mirror which makes great sense for a wall-mount as everyone will be able to trigger it regardless of height. The light is perfect for applying makeup and the clarity is great. Yes, the light sometimes shuts off when I don't want it to do so but I just swivel back to the mirror and it turns back on so it is not a problem. This mirror is great!

WARNING! NOT COMPATIBLE WITH OLD WORK BOXES!
I'll be generous and give this product three stars because it is a good looking and functional mirror. But be warned: This product is not compatible with old work boxes without some mods and carefully repairing a bit of peek at the corners of the box. (This review is for the hardwired version, which I elected to purchase because I didn't want to mess with periodic charging and potential failure of an internal battery.) Since it was a new installation, I bought a standard Carlon old work box from Home Depot, with the front tabs that overlap the drywall on the outside, and plastic tabs in back that are tightened against the inside of the drywall to hold the box in place. So far, so good...but hold on: Two problems. First, an old work box protrudes slightly from the drywall (because of the front tabs), which means the circular plate that fastens to it (and the mirror to the plate) will be protruding about 1/16 to 1/8 from the wall. Secondly, and totally unacceptable, the tabs in front protrude from the base of the mirror. I was able to figure out a decent workaround by completely cutting off the front plastic tabs, sinking the box into the drywall slightly, and allowing the front circular metal plate the mirror attaches to hold the box in place. Even so, the corners of the box peek slightly from the base of the mirror when mounted. For a company that prides itself on products that are simple, intelligent and "intuitive", I found installation of this product and the ridiculously tight tolerance of the base that won't even overlap or work with a standard old work box totally unacceptable. This human simply can't reconcile what the product designers were thinking when they engineered this product, unless they erroneously assumed everyone who installs one has an extant electrical box exactly where they want the mirror mounted. Had I known in advance the hassle of installing the hardwire version, I probably would have just purchased the USB-charge version. The product designers made this item unnecessarily difficult to install.

My new favorite thing!
Replaced a hardwired makeup mirror that had a bad elbow that was constantly coming apart and was literally falling off the wall. I tried one other mirror before I found this one but the lighting wasn't great and the mirror seemed really. This one is perfect! Made well, moves smoothly, lights beautifully and automatically when you walk up to it! The mirror is nice and big too. The arm extension has a seamless in and out motion so I won't have to worry about the swiveling elbow breaking. I really do love this mirror.

Rushed afterthought of a design?
Firstly, the current reviews on this product page are almost all for its rechargeable predecessor. I'm aware that it's common for counterfeit sellers who typically review bait and switch, but the same thing happening on a properly branded item is shameful. As for the product itself, there are a couple glaring issues during installation. 1. The instruction for the mounting plate states "screw plate over junction box or onto wall". Installing over junction box is obviously the instinct, as installing it directly onto the wall and handling the live wire connections would be a direct violation of fire code basically anywhere. However, the size of the base does not even entirely cover a standard old work junction box, leaving an ugly base visible after the installation. 2. The instruction states "pull wires through hole", while there is no space at all in front of the plate to manage wires and caps. 3. The wire caps provided in the product package are too small to fit even standard 12 gauge wires. 4. The only screws include in the product package are a pair with drywall anchors. Those would make perfect sense for the rechargeable version, but for the hard-wired version shouldn't you include the screws to connect to a junction box instead? And if your box is not near a stud, good luck having the mirror sit stable at all. Does the mirror and lighting part work well? Yes, but so does anything else on the market, and way below a $200 sticker price. The foundation of this is such a joke of a design, that the only way I could make sense of it is that the rechargeable version probably got shut down by a lawsuit and they had to rework the rest of the production under time pressure, and eventually somebody said "f it, good enough". I bought a fair share of simplehuman products because of their generally polished design and reliability. This one however, is so far off from those qualities that I may just stop buying their products completely.
