Can the battery pack be inserted inside a spud gun and resist the instant heat created?

The battery pack will not hold up to that just put the ends in it

I don't have it here at my house but from what I remember, they are about 15-18 inches.

Are the steel prongs designed to be over the gas holes? Will the flame melt these from the direct heat?

You can't melt steel of any kind at the temperature produced by a stove, barbeque,water heater,etc. If this doesn't answer your question contact the manufacturer.

What is the height of the spark over the mounting bracket?
