The Gerstner International GI-M24 Red Oak 3-Drawer Mid-Base is an imported, classic American style base, constructed of American red oak hardwood and red oak veneers. The Mid-Base extends storage capacity for your special collections or favorite tools, and perfectly complements our GI-T24 Oak 11-Drawer Top Chest.There are 3 full-width drawers, mounted on friction reducing, molded plastic drawer slides. A single key locks the front lid of your base keeping valuables and tools safe and secure. During use, the front lid slides under the bottom drawer and out of the way to allow complete access to all drawers.Chrome plated steel hardware is hefty and durable and adds style to the chest while the side handles allow for portability even when loaded with your favorite items. This gives me most of the look and feel while being at a price I can afford. Don't confuse this with a toolbox meant for daily carry in your truck. This is at its best on the workbench for quality storage of your fine machinist tools. That is how I use mine and I am happy with its performance.

**Q: What is the working height of this set of drawers (height it adds to a stacked toolbox)?**
A: If a properly seated Gerstner International GI-T24 Top Chest were stacked onto this Mid-Base unit, or, another type of chest that fit inside the side rails of the base, it would add 8 3/4 inches to the overall height.  

The outside height dimension of the Mid-Base is 9 inches.

A: Front to back, inside the drawer is 8-3/6". My full size beveled edge woodworking chisels are over 10" long. My full size wood carving chisels are over 9" long.

I'm a woodcarver and hate having my tools knock around in metal chests so I have several vintage wooden chests. As a chest base, this works very well, and I plan on purchasing one or two more.
