OWC 4TB Express 1M2 Portable NVMe Thunderbolt (USB-C) SSD USB4 Ultra Fast External SSD Drive with Aluminum Heat Sink Enclosure

I waited over 5 months before writing this review. I'm using the 4TB OWC Express 1M2 permanently connected to an iMac M4 and always the latest MacOs. The Mac is always on. The disk work fine most of the time and is as fast as, if not faster than, the internal Apple SSD. BUT occasionally, out of the blue, about once a week on average, gets disconnected from the Mac. It literally disappears and the only way to get it back on is by unplugging it and plugging it back again. This happens in disparate circumstances, both under heavy use and when it's been totally idle for hours, so there's no way to understand what may be causing the issue. I already had the disk sent back to OWC for inspection and repair, which they did. But to little avail, as the issue — though less often than before — still occurs. This is very troubling, as the disconnection may cause important processes to abort without recovery. Update: the issue is becoming frequent to the point of rendering the disk near unusable. Only today it disconnected already three times.

Ürün güzel, oldukça hızlı. M4 mac mini bilgisayarımdakinden daha hızlı gibi geldi bana. Ölçüm yapmadım. Aman aman bir ısınması da yok. Önden mac bilgisayarlara uyumlu apfs biçiminde formatlı olarak geldi. Windows'ta kullanacaksanız kendiniz ntfs olarak formatlamanız gerekiyor. Üründe sıkıntı yok ama kargo firması çok sıkıntılı. 13 Mart'ta sipariş geçtim. Satıcı ertesi gün kargoya verdi. 26 Mart'ta teslim aldım. İstanbul içinde bir teslimat 12 gün sürüyorsa orda bir problem vardır. Kargo kolaygelsin.com şirketi. Müşteri hizmetlerindeki görevliler oldukça kibar ve ilgiliydiler, fakat 30 bin liralık bir üründe bu kadar bekleme süresi insanın sinirini bozuyor gerçekten. Bu tarz yüksek fiyatlı ürünlerde UPS, Yurtiçi, Aras gibi kurumsal firmalarla çalışılmalı bence.

Size - 4TB. Even though it says 4TB, the actual capacity that I see in the drive is 3.84TB and available space is 3.6TB which is strange. I'll need to contact the vendor to understand why the entire 4TB is not available. I formatted this drive on my Mac before using (APFS Encrypted) but still see 3.84TB available. Not sure why. Compatibility - I only have Apple devices so can only talk about Macs. I connected it with a thunderbolt 4 cable to my thunderbolt 4 port on my Mac Studio. The speed is incredible. No issues. It was basically a plug and play device with advertised speeds. I see a 2581 for read data but write is 3141 MB/S. Transferring 108GB from my iCloud account took a min so very happy about that. Drive Quality - It feels very sturdy and quality product. The size is small and something you can easily travel with. Not heavy. I feel that if the internals work as advertised then this should last me for several years. Overall I'm very pleased with the quality, speed and functionality of the drive. Everything looks good except the fact that the drive is 3.84 TB and not 4TB as advertised. I'll provide an update after contacting the vendor. Oct 2, 2025 - UPDATE: I spoke with AWC support desk and the response that I received was that the reason that I see 3.6TB available space is because of over provisioning. This means that a portion of the SSD's total storage is set aside by the drive to optimize performance and to extend life span. All this is good but it is almost 400GB of space for optimization. That's a lot. Here's what the Readme.txt file from AWC says and I quote "Setting up your new drive takes just a few minutes and is as simple as launching the included utility and following the on-screen instructions. When finished, your new drive will have its full capacity and be completely optimized for use with your computer system." I didn't use the utility and instead formatted the drive. From what I'm told, it wouldn't have made a difference. Losing this much space is a bummer but other than that this drive is truly amazing speed and quality wise. I still love the performance and functionality. Support response was pretty quick and professional. Hoping that this drive lasts me a few years.

Für den Cutting-Edge Computer-Freak ein Muss. Brutal schnell, schick und gut teuer. Aber wahrscheinlich das Geld wert. Aber man achte darauf, Thunderbolt-Kabel zu verwenden (nicht bloss USB-C - ja, die Stecker sind identisch - bloss das Kabel selbst nicht) und der Host, sprich Computer, muss natürlich auch entsprechend liefern können. USB 2/3 - dafür ist das Teil NICHT gebaut. Da muss wesentlich mehr kommen (eben TB 4-5), sonst hat man sein Geld für einen hübschen Briefbeschwerer ausgegeben. Specs studieren VOR dem Kauf.
