Excellent medically-oriented biochemistry textbook
Outstanding biochemistry textbook with an emphasis on human metabolism. Compared to other textbooks aimed at medical students, it has clearer (less distracting) figures and avoids the inclusion of multiple โboxesโ of information. As a result, it is more visually appealing and an easier read. Clinical correlations are well presented, and there are excellent chapters on molecular genetics, the biochemistry of aging, etc. For those studying veterinary medicine, there is also mention of the metabolic differences in ruminants.

Wonderful panorama of human biochemistry
This is a wonderful tried and tested book for one with a passion for the biochemistry of human life. It is the 32 nd edition, and I used it first in medical school in 1970. I am finishing it now for the second time. The explanations are clear, and the biochemical pathways are illuminated in a different way than the traditional detailed textbooks. Instead of finding myself dizzy with the flow and ebb of tiny dots to represent electrons, this text just shades the relevant atoms for change; it makes the understanding of metabolic changes easy to understand. It is not for the light hearted and is not an introduction to the field. If you really want to understand human biochemistry and have an interest in medicine, this text is for you.
