We love this toy!
I don't often leave reviews, but just had to for this one. I actually bought two of the backpacks. One for my 4 year old and 1 for my 3 year old. I can't say enough good things about this toy. It is a sturdy well made product. I don't feel that it is overpriced for what you are getting. This toy is solid and well made, it should last a long time. It isn't too large, and the mess is self contained. It will travel good as well. The letters are super tight like another reviewer said, which is great! I don't think we will be losing the letter pieces any time soon. Even though the letters are tight, my 3 year old was still able to pull them out and put them back in. Mr pencil is tethered to the toy, and won't get lost. It has several different games and both of my girls have loved playing with them. My older girls have enjoyed helping their siblings as well. The age range is spot on. My 3 year old enjoys the hands on puzzle aspect of it and all the different songs. She isn't coordinated enough to draw the letters or pictures too good, but she has fun trying. My 4 year old loves trying to write all the letters, and is doing quite well. It is interesting enough that it can hold their attention for a good half hour, and they will play with it on their own. Interacting and helping them with it makes it even more educational. I really think this toy will help them learn their alphabet. I love that the letter pieces are capitals. Because usually we teach capital letter first. They do have a button for drawing lower case letters as well though. Probably my favorite feature is that it teaches your child how to draw letter animals. That feature alone will make this toy last longer. My older kids 9 and 6 love that aspect. The only thing I wish is that they had made the letters magnetic, then they could have been letter stamps as well. Overall it's a great toy, and I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

Great find!
This toy is fun and educational. My toddler enjoys all of its components. The durability of Leap Frog products are great.

Great tool
I really liked this educational toy for my granddaughter. Now if there was only a way to get her to use it all the time. The letters were hard to get out at first but loosened up nicely and still stayed snug when putting back together.

Great learning toy that’s lots of fun!
The media could not be loaded. Bought 2 of these as gifts from my grandson & granddaughter. Very nice and well made. Being able to zip and wear as a backpack is a neat feature which made this more fun. Grandson immediately started to play with it, and without assistance started working in his letters, following directions from “Mr Pencil” and we all LOVED the Mystery Word feature! Including the kids. The screen can also be used to draw pictures, which he also enjoyed very much! This learning toy turned out to be a great gift, at a GREAT price! Appeared to make learning fun. ! I’d highly recommend it.

3 year old loves it
My 3 year old got this for Christmas. She plays with it for hours. She loves to write her letters and listens to the toy tell her what letter to write. Great learning toy. It packages great and is easy to take along. Only downfall is the letters are little and they come off so they are easily lost and they are a choking hazard for kids that put things in their mouth.

Well thought out
The price is a little on the high side - but you're getting a puzzle (the alphabet pieces come out) and a drawing board. The part I really love (and my 3 year old is too young for) is where it shows you how to turn the letter into an animal (and the animal's name starts with that letter). I think this is best for ages 3-4, but my 7 year old loved using this to play school with my 3 year old and she thought the animal drawing part was cute, too. My son (the 3 year old) LOVES walking around with this on his back. We've had it a few days now and he often picks it up. Here's the part that I think is really well thought out: it's really hard to take the letters out. I know that seems counterintuitive, but it means they aren't spilling everywhere and you can hand the toy to a crazy 3 year old without all the letters being lost (because even with the letters in there, you can push on them to hear the letter sounds). It really takes a parent (or big sister) to pull them out. I took off a star because the screen isn't backlit, so it's difficult to see and the price is high (I bet it will got down to twenty by the holidays). Blissfully, the toy came with batteries. YAY LEAPFROG!!

Great for learning
I first saw this when my toddler's cousin came over for the day and brought one, and both girls played with it for a long time. Seeing how interested my girl was in it, I was happy to find a pink version because mine loves pink, and when both are together they won't get pieces switched or lost. There are lots of fun games on it and it is helping her to learn how to hold the pencil. I just wish the string was a tad bit longer on the pencil but it doesn't seem to bother her much. It has also held up to a 3 year old lugging it everywhere we go, and so far she has lot none of the letters. I like that you can still use the 'letter' even if the piece happened to be missing, it is just somehow hard for her to get some of the letters out but she is figuring it out!
