Cotopaxi Allpa 35L Travel Pack

I travel a lot for work and spend around one in every 3 days on the road, travelling all over the world. Around 15 years ago I took the decision to only ever travel with hand luggage. This is my third cabin-compliant bag, having previously used a Lowe Alpine Carry-on 45 and Osprey 30L Porta...both fine bags. I was searching for a pack that was bigger than the Porta (fine for one week, but too small for any thing longer) and smaller than the Lowe Alpine. I spent more than a year 'thinking' about getting the Cotapaxi Alpa 35 an and finally caved. It took me a long time to find a color that wouldn't immediately tarnish with the amount of travel I do (something they need to think about with their preference for light colors). When it arrived and I spread the clamshell it looked way too small and I thought: I'll never get my junk in there...but as I started packing and realized, not only would it fit, but it would keep on swallowing, I fell a little bit in love. I've now used this on about 10 international trips and feel ready to pass judgment. It is very close to perfect. It fits an awful lot for its size (especially with packing cubes); it is very comfortable on the back and the straps don't twist backwards like they do on every other pack I've owned; the front pocket is great and does not protrude into the main compartment as it does on most travel packs. I love the complete clamshell opening as you can lay it out and use it like a horizontal wardrobe. I was worried about the lack of compression straps...as I travel I place dirty clothes in a compression sac and have always relied on compression straps to re-pack at the end of a trip...but the zip up inner pockets handle this perfectly. I have one criticism: the front pocket zip needs to open from the other side to prevent the contents of the pocket falling out every time you open it. A small criticism for an otherwise perfect pack. I have no hesitation in recommending.

I took this backpack on a recent trip to France and Spain. I fit enough clothes for a two week trip (capsule wardrobe of course). I love the compartments and all the pockets. I never had any problems finding all my stuff. It is high quality and very durable. I’m a petite woman (4’11”). It was a bit of a challenge carrying this on longer walks, but if you’re fit then no problem!!!
