The white tip is much like a compressed paper stub blender, and the dark foam end is a very soft spongy blender that’s great for feathery, ethereal blending. Press too hard with the spongy end while using pastel chalks will basically remove most of the chalk. But a very light touch can give exquisite results. I have not had the same issues as some other reviews with the white ends getting imbedded into the metal handle, and I received all 12 pieces. My set came complete, and it’s all top quality. The only thing that would make this set better would be a nice case to keep them in. Other than that, I think these are perfect for chalk, charcoal, graphite, and maybe creamy-leaded color pencils (like Prisma brand), although I haven’t yet tried them on colored pencils.
