Press the metal notch on the handle to release the blade and fold it back down.

Is it good for self defense against wild animals or dangerous humans?

I suppose if you had this with yourself and was getting attacked by a bad human, it may be good self defense. And if it was by a dangerous animal, let's say it may only work towards small pests. This knife is sharp and can cut deep but I hope you don't have intention to use it for danger.
