Easy 24/7 solar camera
Update: june 6, 2026 Still running strong. My neighbor kid hosed it down with water but it still seems to be holding up without any issues. Impressed. Ill update if I notice any issues. ---------- Original review: I’ve been testing out the Tapo C675D, and it’s been awesome. I have other tapo cameras but they're all wired. This is my first solar security camera. If you hate dealing with wires, the solar panel is amazing. You just set it up and completely forget about cable management or charging batteries. The dual lens setup is a huge win. I have one lens pointed straight at my backyard and the other covering the side yard, so there are zero blind spots. Because it uses 24/7 timelapse instead of massive video files, it barely takes space. You get way more days of saved footage on a single SD card. HOWEVER the downside is also the time lapse. The continuous recording isn't normal, smooth video. I'd definitely prefer a standard video feed, but honestly, getting weeks of extra saved footage totally trumps that. Final Verdict: if you want total coverage without drilling holes for cables, this thing is a no brainer. Trading super smooth video for tons of extra storage history is well worth it.

Great Value Camera 👍… But the Mount Needs a Redesign ⚠️
Overall, this camera delivers excellent value for the price 👍. It’s not perfect, but it absolutely gets the job done. Setup was straightforward, and I’m using an SSD to record footage, which works reliably 📹. The app is feature-rich, almost to a fault. There’s a bit of a learning curve at the start, but once you get familiar with it, everything functions as expected. Now, let’s be honest about the downsides. There are some mechanical quirks and performance limitations, but nothing that breaks the core experience. The biggest issue, and this is important, is the mounting bracket design ⚠️. The attachment system that holds the camera is simply not robust. It connects the camera to a plastic mount that attaches to your surface, but: -The bracket comes loose too easily -The clips feel cheap and poorly engineered. -There are two brackets involved, and neither inspires confidence. This is an area that needs serious improvement in future versions. On the wireless solar panel model, battery performance is very good🔋. Mine has charged up to 95%. After cleaning the solar panel (which initially only got it to 82%). Positioning can also impact battery charging via the solar panel. 👉 Bottom line: Despite its mechanical flaws, I still highly recommend this camera. It offers solid functionality, great features, and strong value for money. Fix the mount, and this would easily be a 5 plus-star product. Updated: April 20. Now up to 100% on the battery from the solar panel. I wish it would record when there is a SSD, and no wifi.

Great camera, awesome function and features, solar panel needs upgraded
So far the camera is great! We’ve had it a little over a week and it functions really well. We purchased it because a predator was killing our chickens. Since installing the camera we’ve been able to identify a family of foxes as our culprit and with the help of the movement notifications, we’ve been able to run outside and scare them away. As such, our sightings have greatly decreased and we haven’t lost any more chickens. I also like that it has two way audio, a light, and the image quality is pretty decent, even at night. I do agree with other reviews that the solar panel that comes with the cam is a little underpowered. It was only charging 4-5% each day, even though the mounting location gets several hours of morning sun. If you have the perfect location and sun exposure, it might work better, but definitely doesn’t live up to the 45 minute charging time as advertised. I decided to buy a universal 6watt panel from Amazon for about $15. So far we’re getting charged consistently to 97% before sundown. I’d like to reach 100%, but I’m satisfied that the camera will function at the current rate.

Live viewing possible but needs better panels to offset battery consumption.
I bought 2 c660 camera kits that would be a 5 star if it wernt for the solar panels not charging enough to offset battery use in live view or 24/7 capture. In 24/7 capture (not live view) battery life dropped significantly. I recharged, took off 24/7 capturing and waited to make sure it wasnt dropping than set up live viewing via app on fire tv and thats when battery life plummeted. While viewing live the app manually has to be stopped, it deosnt time out which will drain battery in less than a day. With intermittent live viewing, battery was much better depending on number of times viewed and length of live viewing. Both cams were dropping daily in 24/7 capture, recharging about 20% in the day and droppings back down at night until they completely drained in 3 days despite being in direct sunlight most of the day. Once I replaced the included small 2watt panels with normal sized 6watt panels, both cameras were back to 100% in 3 days with live viewing intermittently and 24/7 capture on 20 seconds and stay at >96%. It takes a learning curve to get zones and sensitivity to your liking just like the ring cams. If you dont use those 2 modes then you dont have to worry about battery draining with provided panels, unless you have motion on thats constantly triggering it on. I face a street and usually have about 15 events a day without ever dropping past 96% with 6watt panels. Cameras themselves have good quality videos and pics. Notifications are quick and just as good as the rings im trying to replace with exception of no pictures, thats a paid service like the ring cameras but tapo calls it rich notifications. Only con is they arnt as wide angled as the rings which limits their view (see photos for comparison), but pan and zoom make up for that. C660 FOV is 98° vertical while ring is 150 diagnal. I can see everything at once with ring but depend on the pan to see with tapo. Its nice but also i can see where if there was multiple people walking different directions, Ai will choose one to follow leaving the rest out of view. I've seen them not track in that situation to include as much as possible but luckily that doesn't happen often and I never really thought about their dual lens at the time that tracks and has wider FOV. Storage goes up to 512GB, but I have 256GB high endurance micro SD that Ive been using about a month now and Im at 2GB. App layout is simple to follow and allows for pretty much all of rings setups with few exceptions: 1. No privacy mode timer incase you forget to turn the camera back on. 2. Only one scedule set up for when you dont want notifications but do want recording. If you want more than one you have to set a wider off window which leaves you without notifications for longer time than you'd like but its only way to get mutiple times in one. 3. No big deal but zones are 4 points not 5 or 6 which leaves less than flexible shapes for coverage. Minor things like that though im willing to sacrifice to save money each year if they continue to perform. 4. No individualized device notification sounds, all devices have just one notification sound customizable through notifications on the phones settings for tapo app. Only exception is when doorbell is pressed, that notification sound is seperate and customizable also under phones notifications for the tapo app. One other thing was noise when camera turns quickly, I replaced one thinking its camera but replacement was same you can hear the turning when tracking fast vehicles (not loud but audible). Update 6months later: still performing well, with exception of drifting from the set point (home position) occasionally. I usually correct by panning back. It gives you 6 slots to set so you can quickly turn camera to, but main one is never where its set to and I cant figure out why. The notification tells you its person/pet/vehicle or motion for free, and you can filter event based on that for free. Rich notifications (video/picture clip and 180 day cloud storage) is $3.25/month for 1 camera or 35$/year, or $119/year for 2 or more. Now they have areal (ai assistant) that gives you quick search, voice assist, facial recognition, and cloud storage for 200$/year. While super cool and detailed notification and clip down to the action and color of clothing, Im happy with free version still and plenty of local storage (used 13g out of 256g without 24/7 capture). If you use that feature it will use up storage in a week or 2 depending on your setting and sd card will rewrite itself. This feature if FREE unlike paid subscriptions so with a good quality card it will last years. As for the subscription, I only had to search footage from month back one time in a six month period so definently can live without areal, and 200$ seems steep for that. Missed events were fixed once we turned up sensitivity and adjusted detection zones that had to be reset when I recalibrate camera back to home position, but tapo has put out update to fix this issue and cameras no longer drift. home position (1st set slot) is off set and I think it has to do with sd card rewrite. If I had to do all over I would buy the tapo dual lens c675 but this was not out at the time i purchased 660's. The C675 4k is much pricer but worth looking into if you'd like the wider field of view and pan/zoom all in one. All in all I feel confident turning off ring subscription since I get all the same notifications consistently with the c660s and they track pretty well down the street and I can read licsence plates.

Everything you'd want in an outdoor camera to let you know what's going on around the house!
I now own a half-dozen Tapo cameras - they're amazing! Setup is easy and access via the apps (iphone/ipad) is equally easy. This particular model is extra awesome as solar powered (and have never had a power issue - never) and it has very impressive Intelligence in selecting what parameters you want it to alert you about if you choose that setup, else will record everything and it can easily tell a person, from a pet, from motion in general. The infrared and night viewing is everything you'd want. Overall the price is competitive across the Tapo line. Buy it - no regrets!

Excellent security camera, always charged with included solar panel.
This camera is the best of a variety of security cameras I've bough recently. The solar panel keeps it fully charged, the motor allows a wide field of view and the image quality is good. I have it connected relatively far from my router and despite that, I have not had connectivity issues. The unit is solid, and I'm confident it will hold up to the elements like other Tapo cameras I have. Everything needed to install it to a wall (in my case, masonry) is included. I opted for cloud storage but if you don't, you can still insert a memory card. Setup is quick and easy, and you can configure preset targets for quick panning.

I really love this camera!
Super easy to install and setup. I love the pan/tilt and the clarity of the picture. It has an AI zoom feature that’s really nice. I have 11 Tapo cameras, 3 are outdoor cameras and 2 of the 3 are stationary cameras. I like this one so much that I might have to upgrade those 2. I have solar panels on all my outdoor cameras and they work very well. The battery stays charged up. I’m very happy with this camera.

Decent cameras but the onboard storage and app are lacking.
I'm tossed up about these cameras. They do work well on solar, I've never had to charge any of them after many months of use. They work pretty well with live video, but when I try to play back from the app, it's not a great experience. I bought name brand video rated microSD cards, but the video is always choppy. I can't blame wifi as my live video is not bad, so I think the SD storage is just not good. I am not willing to add yet another subscription service and was really hoping these would suit my needs, but they seem to have maybe gone cheap on the storage processing to try to push you to cloud services. Wifi cameras can be jammed easily now so I like the idea of onboard storage, but between the video quality and the lackluster scrolling/search function in the app, it's a big meh. I didn't use the cloud monitoring, so I can't comment on that. The motion detection is a bit weak (so was Ring!) as they do miss boats going by my dock. I live on a canal so the speed limit is 5MPH max and I've seen boats go by undetected even though I have it set to record all motion. On a positive note, they are easy to set up and the app can notify you of motion. I disable the motion as they do pick up squirrels, palm tree fronds and other irrelevant things even on person detect mode, but that seems to be the case with most wifi cameras. My plan is to run ethernet cable once it cools off a bit in Fall and just use POE network cameras and a big DVR that records everything and lets me scroll it on my laptop if needed. I had a wired setup years ago and it worked great. Wifi is so much easier, but wired is the most reliable.

100/10 – Absolutely Love This Product!
I am completely in love with the Tapo 4K Solar-Powered Outdoor Camera! From the moment I installed it, it has exceeded all my expectations. The 4K image quality is crystal clear, even at night, and the solar power feature means I don’t have to worry about charging or battery replacement — such a game-changer! Setup was super easy with the Tapo app, and the live feed is smooth and reliable. I also love the motion detection alerts — they’re instant and accurate, giving me real peace of mind about my home. The build quality feels premium and durable, perfect for outdoor conditions. Honestly, this is by far one of the best outdoor cameras I’ve ever used. I’d rate it 100/10 if I could — worth every penny!
