SAVED THE DAY
All of a sudden I started getting the folder with a question mark on my 2012 MacBook Pro 13". I did online research and figured it must be a bad cable. And it was! This saved the day. It wasn't hard to install (many youtube videos explain how). The only thing easier wouldn't been the battery. How I deduced it was the cable (people will always say it's the software): it's a common problem with these computers, for the first 4-5 times it was sporadic when I got the question mark folder, I unscrewed the bottom and pushed the cables down which helped once, and finally I removed the hard drive from the computer--put it in a harddrive holder and connected it to another computer and could access the content on the drive. This was WELL WORTH the cost and I got it much faster than anywhere else. Some places (such as the place I bought the refurbished computer from --OWC--didn't even carry the part.Oh, and I'm typing this on the computer that had the bad ribbon. Thank you Amazon and the company that made this cable/ribbon!

Simple, inexpensive fix.
When my wife called me at work and said that our mid 2012 MacBook Pro wouldn't boot up and only showed a white screen and folder with a question mark on it I feared the worst. Upon researching this problem my son discovered that it was most likely due to the original HDD Hard Drive cable being broken. To confirm it wasn't my hard drive I took that and the suspected broken cable to our local Apple sales and repair store where a service tech plugged my hard drive into his computer and said that it worked fine and that the cable was most likely the culprit. I ordered one on Amazon and upon its arrival I had my MacBook Pro up and running within 25 minutes. Very easy to install after learning how to replace this cable on YouTube. Highly recommend.

Works as expected. My MacBook Pro lives!
First the HD died in my mid-2012 MacBook Pro. I replaced it, but a couple of months later the Mac started acting up again, and this time the HD was fine -- the symptoms were about the same, though, which indicated it must be the ribbon cable. I ordered this one, crossed my fingers, and... it worked! My laptop is working beautifully again. And a lot cheaper than paying Apple for it! With the new cable and the new SSD, and all the extra RAM I added last year, this 7 year old Mac is zippy fast!EDIT: Follow-up, August 2019:It's still working fine half a year later. No problems with it.EDIT: Follow-up, April 2020:Looks like it may have failed today. I'm not gonna reduce the rating, because I honestly think the problem is with Apple's faulty design for these, and it's probably not the fault of the cable itself. With the amount of times I've dropped the darn laptop...!

Fixed the issue of not being able to install OS (MBP 2012)
My 2012 Macbook Pro was recognizing the hard drive (actually an SSD) Yet something was flaky. It took forever to seemingly install Mac OS but then would not correctly boot as it did not complete the install. I tried this twice. I suspected the cause was a flaky HDD cable, not at all uncommon in some Macbook Pro's as the bottom case can press down and affect the internal HDD cable on occasion which can cause similar issues as described. So I ordered this HD cable as a replacement. I find it easier to get the COMPLETE ASSEMBLY WITH SLEEP BRACKET already attached (this style) I find it worth another 4 bucks as the cable part is tiny to get into the old bracket. I replaced cable with this one. I also reinforced / protected with some black electrical tape covering the cable on top. I was able to install OS, booted up immediately. My hunch about bad cable was correct. I had gotten Sunmall HDD cable before and find it reliable. So recommend. BE SURE YOU GET CORRECT ONE FOR YOUR MODEL/YEAR ! They state that clearly.

Works good but always order a few spares as these tend to go.
I was able install it and the hard drive works again, but I hope some day there could be an improvement on Apple’s design on this cable. Apple doesn’t design there hardware the best.

I was skeptical
I got a 2012 MacBook Pro that looked pretty good but didn't recognize any hard drive I put in. I could get it to run fine off an external drive but who wants that? By chance I saw a comment somewhere that said the sensor that is also attached to this cable can fail - apparently a common problem with this model. Who knew??? I took a chance and ordered this and damn! so the SSD I had installed and is running like a clock! Happily surprised!

Works as intended for my MacBook Pro!
I installed this new hard drive cable, as my original cable died (I had the grey folder with the question mark on my screen). While I gave this cable 5 stars, I gave the instillation of the cable a 3, due to the instillation of it (this has nothing to do with the manufactured part, just with installing the new cable). There are great videos on YouTube to show you how to install the cable, but make sure to pay attention to the bend points on the cable in the videos (use your old cable as a reference). For the record, I have a 13-inch, Mid 2012 MacBook Pro with a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor.

Worked well, easy install
If youre trying to decide whether to buy this full assembly or save a few bucks and get the one without the bracket, stop. Get the one with the bracket. You will more than likely break the bracket trying to get it off the old cable, spend the extra 5 bucks or so and buy this one, you'll thank me later. Easy install, worked well and appears to be of equal or better quality than the OEM apple one.
