Game changer for my styling routine!
Absolutely loving this cream! It makes prepping my hair for styling so easy and the results are gorgeous. My hair feels super soft, smooth, and has a healthy-looking shine every time I use it. If you use styling tools regularly, this is a must-have step to protect your hair and hold your look together.

The 'rich' version is extremely rich!
I don't think this is a bad styling product; I just chose poorly for my particular hair. I have fine-textured hair and chose the Rich Conditioning version because I thought I needed the extra moisture, but this turned out to be even richer/heavier than I anticipated. I really should have gone with the Light version. For my hair, this weighed it down pretty quickly and made it look greasy sooner than I wanted. I also found that my hair didn't hold a curl particularly well with this product in it. That's not necessarily a criticism of the product itself, it just isn't a great match for my hair type. I do like that it leaves my hair soft rather than stiff or crunchy, and it adds some nice shine. It also has a really pleasant scent. I just went a little too far on the conditioning side for my fine hair. I'll probably try the Light version next time, because I think that may be a much better fit for what I'm looking for.

Great Silicone‑Free Cream! Noticeably Different Results Between the Light and Rich Versions
I have very fine hair with a lot of density, and as I’ve gotten older, my below‑shoulder wavy hair has started to look different from the crown to the ends. The top stays defined, but the bottom can look airy or uneven, and I’ve been trying leave‑in treatments to help everything look more consistent. I’ve been using this for a couple of weeks, and I like it a lot. My waves stay defined, my strands stay smooth without flyaways, and the overall look from root to ends is more uniform without looking greasy. All four versions of this are silicone‑free, which is important for me because removing silicone from my hair care dramatically improved my shedding issues. 💚 IT'S EASY TO ORDER THE WRONG OPTION ON MOBILE, HERE'S HOW TO CHOOSE The listing is confusing, especially on a phone, and I ended up testing two versions that sit on opposite ends of the line. The Vine option I received is the Curly to Coily – Rich version, which is the heaviest formula. That version is too heavy for my hair, but it works surprisingly well on my ends when I need more moisture. I purchased the Straight to Wavy – Light version because that is the correct match for my hair, and it works well from crown to ends. The four options behave very differently, so I would double‑check the version before hitting add to cart. 💚 LIGHT VERSION SUPPORTS WAVES ON DAMP HAIR AND DOES NOT REQUIRE HEAT This has a soft scent, and the texture spreads easily through damp hair. This absolutely has to be used on wet or damp hair. I tried applying another product first and then adding this on dry hair, and it didn’t work well at all. On damp hair, this keeps my waves supported, reduces puffiness, and helps my hair look the same from top to bottom. This does not require heat to activate, so it fits routines where someone air‑dries, or showers at night and styles in the morning. After styling, I still use Dyson's Post Styling cream to lock in my style. 💚 THE HEAVY VERSION CAN BE USED STRATEGICALLY ON ENDS FOR EXTRA MOISTURE Even though the Curly to Coily – Rich version is too heavy for my full head of fine hair, I like it on my ends when they need more moisture. I may try the Straight to Wavy – Rich version in winter because my hair needs more hydration then. The trial sizes are generous, so it’s easy to see how each version behaves before committing to a full bottle. 💚 THE REFILLABLE BOTTLE REDUCES WASTE AND FITS PREMIUM HAIR CARE This has a refillable bottle, and the cartridge system is more complex than a typical pump. Once I understood how it locks into place, the design made sense. The main bottle is reusable, and the cartridges are recyclable, so the higher price reflects both the premium brand and the reduced waste. 💚 A SIMPLE WAY TO CHOOSE AMONG THE FOUR VERSIONS I love this Dyson pre‑style cream, and testing two opposite versions made the product structure much clearer. This line has four formulas: Light or Rich for Straight to Wavy hair, and Light or Rich for Curly to Coily hair. The easiest way to choose is to start with your actual hair type and then match the moisture level. The Straight to Wavy – Light version fits fine or medium strands that need support without heaviness, while the Curly to Coily – Rich version suits coarser strands that need substantial moisture. The Rich formulas can also be used only on ends when hair needs extra hydration. The trial sizes make it easy to compare formulas before committing to a full bottle, which is an excellent way to start.

Soft, Defined Curls Without the Crunch or Heavy Product Feel
I picked up the Dyson Chitosan Pre-style Cream because I wanted something that would help my curls hold their shape and fight frizz without turning my hair into a stiff, overly styled situation. My curls and I have a complicated relationship with humidity, so anything that promises flexible hold immediately gets my attention. One thing I really appreciate about this product is that you don't actually need a Dyson air tool to use it. I don't own one, and I've been using this with my diffuser with really good results. I work a small amount through my towel-dried hair, then diffuse as usual, and it gives my curls a noticeably softer, more polished look without making them feel weighed down. The texture was another pleasant surprise. It starts out as a richer cream, but once I work it between my hands it becomes much lighter and spreads easily through my hair. I was expecting something that might leave my curls feeling coated or stiff, especially since it's designed for hold, but that's not what I experienced. My hair still feels like my hair. I can touch it, fluff it, and move it around without that unmistakable "I have approximately three pounds of styling product in here" feeling. What I like most is the finish. My curls look defined and controlled, but still soft and natural. There's no crunchy cast and no overly glossy, shellacked appearance. It gives me the kind of definition where it looks like my curls are simply having a very good hair day rather than announcing that I spent time negotiating with them in the bathroom. It also seems to help with frizz without sacrificing movement. My curls still have bounce and personality, which is important to me because I don't want perfect-looking curls if they feel stiff and lifeless. The castor and argan oils also seem to give my hair a nice conditioned feel without making it greasy. The fragrance is definitely noticeable, but I actually enjoy it. It's a clean, slightly green and floral scent with warmer woody notes underneath. It feels more sophisticated than the typical sweet fragrance you find in a lot of curl products, and it doesn't linger so aggressively that I feel like I'm wearing perfume in my hair. The precision pump is a nice little detail too. It makes it easier to control how much I'm using instead of accidentally squeezing out enough product to style an entire second head of hair. I find that starting with a small amount works best for me and adding more only where I need it. After using it, I'm really impressed. It helps my curls look defined and polished while still feeling soft, touchable, and natural. Most importantly, it doesn't give me that crunchy, heavy feeling that makes me want to immediately wash my hair again. For anyone with thicker, curly or coily hair who wants more control without sacrificing softness and movement, this has absolutely earned its place in my styling routine.

Good for a Dyson, but no heat protection
My husband caught me with a hair product from Dyson and said, "you bought hair stuff from Dyson?" Never mind that he's heard me talk about my obsession with the Airwrap for years. A cream from an electronics brand may seem odd to some at first, but Dyson isn't the first, and it turns out this product is good. My hair is somewhat thick and curly, not quite coily, and it frizzes fast if I don't use the right products or style it right. I'm particular, and I mostly stick to Oribe, since high-end is where I spend and that line works best for me. The bottle is cute, a chic refillable pump that looks nice on a shelf. Refilling a cartridge instead of tossing the whole bottle is a nice touch, too. The catch is the opaque body, since I can't tell how much is left until it starts sputtering. On my hair it feels weightless, no heaviness or film, which isn't easy on thick curls. The scent is pleasant and light, nothing that fights with my other products. As a pre-style cream, I work it through damp hair before drying and styling with my Airwrap. If I do want to use an actual heat styler, I layer it under my Oribe, and don’t feel the two fought, which is the first thing I check with a new cream. Here's where it loses me, though, it’s pretty specific to using a Dyson airwrap, since there’s no dedicated heat protection. At $59, that gap feels like a disconnect. Still, it’s effective as my curls dried more defined and less puffy than my routine gives on its own. What it does well is hold, and my style lasts noticeably longer than it does with a lot of creams. My frizz stays down through the day, even in humidity, without any sticky or crunchy residue. The curls keep their movement instead of going stiff, which is usually the tradeoff with longer hold. Nothing here is going to knock Oribe out of my routine, but as a layer underneath it did its part. Whether it is a good value for the money is where I'm stuck, since I'm not sure I'd rebuy over other creams at that price. I'd suggest it to curly, frizz-prone hair that wants flexible hold, as long as you pair it with a real heat protectant before any hot tools.

Humidity fighter? Yes. Volume booster? No.
First, can we talk about the bottle? I LOVE the overall appearance and the dispense mechanism on the Dyson Chitosan Pre-Style Cream. It dispenses from the bottom by simply pressing the bottle down into your hand, which is incredibly easy, clean, and user-friendly. No squeezing, shaking, or performing bathroom-counter gymnastics to get the product out. 😂 As for the actual product, it does a really nice job of making my hair feel soft, smooth, and noticeably less frizzy. It has also held up impressively well against humidity... which is saying something when you’re dealing with those Texas or Florida days where the air basically doubles as a steam room. You know... those "air you wear" type of days... My only hesitation is volume. When using this before styling, I don’t seem to get quite the same lift and fullness I normally achieve. It’s not a dealbreaker, but if I’m planning a big, bouncy blowout or a more voluminous style, this probably wouldn’t be my first choice. For straight, sleek hair days, though? Fantastic. It keeps everything smooth, helps tame frizz, and prevents humidity from immediately undoing all that hard work. It’s definitely not the most budget-friendly hair product, but a little goes a long way and the bottle lasts quite a while, which helps soften the sting of the price tag. Overall, I’d give it 4 stars. It's excellent for smoothness, frizz control, and fighting humidity, with just a small deduction for flattening some of my usual volume. Because apparently my hair can have humidity control or Texas-sized volume, but it would prefer I not ask for both. 😂

Flexible hold, no crunch
I started with Dyson years ago on the vacuum side. Animal upright first, then a cordless V8 when those came out. That is how a lot of people met the brand, and it is still the right way to understand what they are doing here. They dragged bagless vacuums into the mainstream. Before that you were locked into the Hoover bag racket. Buy the machine, then keep buying their bags forever or the thing chokes. Dyson made cyclonic bagless normal. Vacuum owners owe them for that, whether they like the brand or not. If they had not forced the issue we would probably still be stuffing paper bags into uprights and pretending that was just how cleaning worked. When they moved into hair tools and then this Chitosan line, I paid attention for the same reason. They do not usually phone in the mechanism. This is the Curly to Coily rich cream. Towel-dried hair, two or three pumps, rub it between your palms until it thins out, then through mid-lengths and ends. Styled with what I already use. You do not need an Airwrap for it to work. It's effective on its own. Shine without oiliness. Hold is there. No crunch. Curls and waves stayed defined and still moved. Frizz was down on a humid day. Hair still felt like hair, not a helmet. The bottle is very Dyson. Press it into your hand and you get a controlled amount instead of dumping half the tube. There is also a chip in the container. Hold your phone near it and it opens their site with the how-to for this exact formula. Totally unnecessary, totally Dyson. Same instinct as putting a digital display on a vacuum that already worked. Scent is clean, a little green, a little woody. Not candy. I work with BaBylissPRO, Wahl, Andis, and Gamma+ in the shop. Most styling creams are either too heavy or they freeze the hair in place. This one behaves like a primer. Conditions, knocks the frizz down, gives you a flexible hold you can still put a tool through. I would use it at home and I would use it on curly and coily clients who need control without the crunch. A little goes a long way. That's why it stayed in rotation. Same pattern as the vacuums. They overbuild the small parts, and the small parts are what you notice after the novelty wears off. It's expensive, like everything else they make, and yet a good value.

Nice hold for curls
I just started wearing my hair naturally curly again after removing my extensions, and was looking for a styling mousse or cream that would help hold my curls without the "crunchy" look. This pre-style Chitosan cream by Dyson worked well for this purpose. The bottle that the product comes in is tall and thin, and contains an average amount of product. However, you don't need a whole lot for one use. I got the "curly to coily" version with rich conditioning. The first thing I had to do after opening the package was figure out the dispenser. It dispenses from the top (I think?) and it took me a minute to figure out how it worked. I ended up flipping it and just pressing on the top and scooping out the cream with my fingers. The cream has a slight scent that seems to be standard across all Dyson Chitosan products. I worked it through my wet/damp hair right after washing it and then scrunched it to encourage the curls. It did seem to add some moisture and held the curls adequately. It's been several hours since I put it in, and I've been pretty active doing stuff including outdoor activities, and the curls haven't fallen or anything. It doesn't seem super crunchy looking either, though I might put a bit less in next time because I don't think I need it. As for the price: It is a bit pricey compared to other salon-type brands. I probably would not pay $60 for this product. But it is a good product that I'll continue to use.
