Review: Great option for a compass. - These work great pinned to the straps of a "go bag" or "get home bag". They are easy to read and fairly accurate in general. Much better than trying to read the moss growing on the north side of trees or making a makeshift sundial (totally misleading and inaccurate) and will work even when your cell phone is out of juice or fried. There are other options such as a proper lensatic compass that will be better for reading your bearing but none that I have seen that are so convenient and always available at a glance. Be advised that it takes a couple of seconds to stabilize the reading AND... they are VERY sensitive to proximity to any ferrous metals. Keep them at least a foot away from anything containing iron or magnets and they will read accurately. If you do not do this you will get an inaccurate reading and end up way off course. This can be very manageable with a little bit of preparation and testing before you actually need them. For the price and the convenience these are pretty great!

A: Clip it into any surface or you could put it in a flat surface in the car whichever is more comfortable for you

**Q: "30.9 pounds" - i want to travel lighter and already packing 50 lbs. another 30.9 lbs would kill me! i'm buying anyway. is it made from neutron star?**
A: Nope.  It weighs a couple of ounces.  I have several.  One pinned to my camera strap, one on my pack strap and one in my emergency kit.  One of the most useful instruments I carry.

A: Yes it comes with the pin

**Q: Does this compass work in northern and southern hemisphere?**
A: Sure, except right at north and south poles it may get confused. but you arent traveling to the arctic are you???.  Make sure any magnetic on your gloves are out of the way and any iron metal poles etc. are away from the compass.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Does what compasses do!

The compass points north pretty accurately. It matched the north direction with the phone. The two pictures show that even if you re-orient the compass it still points to the same direction. Otherwise, the only thing that could be improved is the pin. It would be helpful if the pin could be removed so you can set the compass on a table using the silicon base that it has. Tip: The compass (like other ones) is affected by electrical systems. If you try to use it near something that has electricity or battery (like a smart phone, tv, etc.), it will not pint to the north accurately. Just keep that in mind if you get it. You can put it next to your smart phone and watch the north dial move.
