The ladder "rolls" on the metal tube, between two vertical metal stops, that prevent it from sliding off at each end of the tube. You'd have to remove those metal endings (by unscrewing two Allen hex bolts) to be able to slide the ladder off the metal tube. This is quite a cumbersome and time-consuming task, definitly not something you'd want to do everyday. But it is possible nonetheless. **Q: if you need the rail to be 3m what do you need to buy? thanks** A: The rail furnished with this kit is only one meter long, which is way too short in my opinion.... If you are interested, I can measure the diameter of the tube... **Q: Can the two rails be connected end to end,and if connected in this way will the ladder be able to travel end to end of the connected track?** A: Dear customer, thank you for asking. Four #14 screws were included with the main package and that size is good for fixing the track to the bookshelf. The additional track I ordered came with tiny #10 screws with heads almost too small for the holes in the track brackets. The track and the track connectors work well and weren’t very hard to put up straight. Track is made of steel and seems very strong. We mounted the rollers on the inside of the ladder and counter sunk the roller bolts into the back of the ladder to get the bracket tight against the ladder frame. There’s lots of room to make your ladder taller than the top of the bracket. I bought 8' wood pieces to make up my ladder but should have gone a bit longer. Wheels mounted with my own #14 screws as well. Overall good quality for the price. Some other kits were $1000 more direct from manufacturer.
