what is the difference between M3 and H3?

From the http://www.transcend-info.com. The H3 is tested to the U.S. military drop-test standards MIL-STD-810F.The M3 is tested to the U.S. military drop-test standards MIL-STD-810G 516.6.That is the only difference I saw.

will this work with my android tablet? I have a samsung galaxy note pro with 4.4/kitkat.

works with my Android tablet, also works as external drive for my Samsung smart blueray player, and WD TV Live Streaming Media Player

Does this work with laptops? How many USB ports does it need to run?

Works great. I've got 5 of these, one of which I've been using since 2010 (an earlier slimmer model though, but still padded like this). All still working perfectly well. It requires only one USB port and works best with USB 3.0 ports. Even thinking of getting a 6th one

how long is the usb cable?

USB Cable is about 18 inches long.
