Max visits the Women's Book Club
My dog Max is a bit of an escape artist. The last time he got loose, he wandered into a neighborhood women’s book club, where he acted as though he were starving and was promptly lavished with food and attention. It was a funny ending, but it also made me realize that I needed a reliable way to find him quickly if he ever escaped again. Choosing a GPS tracker was not easy. There are essentially three major brands in this category, and Fi appeared to be one of the leaders. After reading through a great many reviews, I chose the Fi Series 3+ because it seemed to have the fewest one-star ratings. More importantly, many of those negative reviews appeared, when read carefully, to involve setup mistakes or user error. With some competing trackers, the negative reviews seemed more likely to point to actual problems with the products themselves. My Fi Series 3+ Smart Dog Tracker Collar arrived within two days. I was immediately impressed by the packaging, which was right up there with what you might expect from an Apple product. The instructions and setup process were equally impressive. Everything was so clear and precise that I was able to get the tracker working without having to backtrack, reread anything, or troubleshoot a single step. That is certainly not the case with many technology products, and it demonstrated the company’s attention to detail. I prepaid for 12 months of service so I would not have to think about monthly payments. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that the Fi app had a 4.7-star rating in Apple’s App Store. I then added the App to my wife’s phone. After all, if Max escapes again and crashes another women’s book club, I want both of us to receive the alerts. Her phone paired with the tracker quickly and easily. The most challenging part of the entire setup was attaching the tracker to the collar, and even that was only because the attachment mechanism is extremely well made. There is a spring-loaded flap that is the same color as the latch. After removing the small protective plastic covering, you need to flip open the spring-loaded latch before sliding it over the tracker. Once you understand that, you are off to the races. The next step was testing it. This was especially important to me because the most common complaint about dog GPS trackers in general is that they supposedly fail at the exact moment you need them. I left my phone in the driveway, told my wife where I was going, and walked down to the end of our cul-de-sac carrying the tracker. When I returned about two minutes later, my phone had received two notifications: one when the tracker passed the end of the driveway and another when it reached the end of the block. Both notifications included addresses, and both locations were perfectly accurate. My wife’s phone received the exact same updates. She was impressed, I was impressed, and I believe most buyers will be impressed as well. Spending a little less than $200 to help ensure that your dog does not end up lost—or become coyote food on some random evening when he decides he is in the mood to explore—is money very well spent. So far, I am extremely pleased with the Fi Series 3+ and feel much better knowing that, should Max make another great escape, we will have a much better chance of finding him quickly.

Fi 3
This is the 2nd Fi 3 I've purchased as I needed it for my (at the time of purchase)8 month old puppy that is an escape artist and social butterfly. My 3 year old, Axel has had his for over a year and I really like the peace of mind knowing he's wearing a gps collar. It's really easy to set up and the app is super simple to navigate. If you purchase a longer subscription especially with multiple dogs the value is pretty decent as well. The only issue I have is the collar Fi sends with the gps unit. For larger dogs, or a dog that wears a wider collar I believe they are just not wide enough. Also, the gps unit is attached to the fi issued collar as part of the collar its self similar to how the buckle is attached. I don't like the stress that puts on the unit so I have purchased other collars from fi approved makers that attach the unit on top of the collar. No issues with it falling off my boy's collars and they are ROUGH players both weighing over 80 pounds and Axel thinks he's part fish and has done a ton of swimming wearing his. the "track lost dog" setting has worked brilliantly when Tonka has taken off on me and is running amok through our neighborhood. Not sure on the actual distance range as I live on a dead end road that's probably quarter of a mile long with about 15 houses on larger lots (old neighborhood without cookie cutter houses jammed in next to each other and every house has an actual front and back yard) give or take and I've always located him on our street within minutes of noticing he's escaped. The light you can activate has been a life saver when trying to find him in the dark. Anytime I've taken him to training classes, dog competitions or miles away from "home base" ive been able to look at the route and stops made according to the fi. I also really like the health and sleep tracking and the ability to add other ppl including your dog walker to your dog's profile and they have access to the info. My father and boyfriend are on my dog's profiles. I would definitely recommend fi as a great option for a dog tracker gps.

Extremely disappointed
Absolutely terrible experience. I could activate the tracker, but then I was effectively soft-locked out of the app because it couldn’t figure out how to apply the membership. It took me to a blank screen with an error message and no way to clear the error except to uninstall/reinstall the app and try again. The AI chatbot was useless. It declared that my issue was resolved simply because I was able to activate (but not actually use) the tracker. It did eventually escalate me to a human via email. I provided screenshots (attached here) showing the error and how I was locked out of the app. The best they could say was that they’d pass it along to their software team to investigate. So I’m returning the product. The app is terrible for creating a soft-lock in this situation. They really didn’t anticipate that someone might need to access parts of the app without an active membership? Customer service was not helpful. I don’t trust this product to help if my dog gets lost.

LIFE saver ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Set up was extremely easy. I like the diversity in mapping out your safe zone. The charger is really neat. Just like a cordless iPhone charger! Just set it down and charge. I have a 60lb American bulldog and the Large fits her perfect. Edit to OG post: My senior dog has dementia and likes to wander sometimes. I love the app to be able to see her sleeping habits, when she’s most active, and of course her location. The battery life is amazing. I swear I can go a week or more with out charging. That is IMPRESSIVE. This thing literally saved my dog’s life. One day I got a text AND app notification that she had left home. I pulled over and zoomed in on the map and saw her and a body of water. I instantly called my mom that lives a mile down the road to go and get her because I was about 10 minutes away. You're able to add an emergency contact and it will share the dog’s location as well as alert them when they’ve left home so you’ve always got a backup person. I did that and she was able to find her easily. By the time I was almost home my mom had called and said she had to jump IN THE POND and get her because she was bobbing up and down. She said if she wouldn’t have gotten there when she did then she definitely would have drowned. OBVIOUSLY IM GIVING A FIVE STAR REVIEW. This is an amazing price for this collar. I also decided to get a “shock” collar for her too. The one I purchased was $600 and isn’t worth that much money at all. I WOULD pay $600 for the Fi collar. If your dog likes to venture out, GET THIS. It could save their life 😊

Zuko tested and approved
The Fi collar gives me a lot of fun info about my dog. Twice it has given me alerts that my dog left the safe area and the alerts were incorrect, but one time it alerted me and was correct and that helped me to quickly know my dog was wandering and I was able to quickly find him and bring him home. I recharge about every 10 days when it gets to around 50% power so I know it always have enough of a charge if he gets lost. The rankings of how much your dog walks compared to others in the city, state, and your dogs breed, as well as all dogs on Fi is cool and fun to watch.

Only works if they they get out further than what you wanted them to
Testing it out by taking it in a vehicle it does lag behind it is not real time but it's not far off only problem is he can get into the neighbor's yard which is well over the perimeter I said and I still do not get a notification or anything unless he gets far enough away that it will show him two or three houses down I would rather know as soon as he gets out of the fence of the perimeter that I set but it seems to not work that way but if they get out and lost I'm sure it will work well just not if they get to your neighbors it will not let you know that they have to be a pretty good ways away for it to work, like I said the perimeter about 5 ft inside my fence line and when he got out to the neighbors he went to the opposite side of their yard which is large yards by the way but it did not ever tell me he got out of the yard the entire time he was on a acre and a half next door it does not work off the perimeter it you said it for so it's good if they get lost lost but if they're just at the neighbors or something and they got out of the fence it will not let you know until they get at least 200 yards away!!!! Update it's been 1 yr and he has gotten as far as 2 houses down before letting me know ,and the big part is,it's $159 new with 1tr service, and they said they couldn't tell me how much after the 1st yr so,i guess i had mine on auto pay and they charged me $200 for 1 more yr of service, it would be cheaper to just order a new one with a free year than pay for the same one for year. Make it make sense!

Much improved over series 2
We had three series 2 fi collars for a few years. Generally had been quite happy with them and the features/price until two of the collars started to come undone while walking the our dogs. One deteriorated to the point it came loose 4 times on one walk at which point I removed the collars and.sropped using them completely. The problem is that the fi receiver fits in line with the collar so if the attachment comes.loose the collar is no.longer connected, and the dog is now without a leash and without a gps tracker. I found companies that created a pouch or other holder for the gps , that would fit around a normal collar. This meant the gps receive is no.longer a critical link. With that in mind I decided to try upgrading to a fi3 series collar. Initially I was going to upgrade my subscription with a credit , but it actually turned out cheaper and quicker to.get the collar from Amazon. The new collar arrived today , nicely packed and ready to go. Setup of the base and collar weren't too difficult. I did find it went better if you didn't put the collar on the base during setup until prompted later. Also, it took a while to connect to my wifi properly. Be patient and it eventually sorts itself out. Have yet to try the tracking outside my safe zone but two things I like already. The attachments to the gps receiver are metal not plastic, and there is a magnetic door that holds things shut. Feels must more robust , and harder to come apart accidentally. Instead of popping out vertically it has to slide out horizontally before it comes loose. I am a little more.comfortable with this design and may skip using the pouches that I planned to. Secondly the led is a little more active and makes itself a little easier to spot due to the motion, not just the pulsing led. Hoping the gps tracking works well when I go on a walk tomorrow. Seems to find the house ok. Curiously it did record 430 steps just setting up and holding the collar. I'm claiming those steps and eating a donut to compensate. :) One thing that surprised me. The blue collar has a pattern on one side and is plain on the other. For some reason the pattern is on the inside when worn and there appears to be no way to flip it over. Indeed the photos on first website show the same, so it appears deliberate. I would jave thought the pattern would look decent showing outwards but maybe that's just me.

A life saver for dogs who like to run!
I’m really impressed with these collars. We have a fenced in back yard but a toddler who likes to leave the other doors open, and dogs who love to run. We are pretty rural so when they get out, they can go for a while - these show me exactly where they’ve gone and helps me tremendously to get them back home! One thing I wish they’d add is an alarm that you can play from the app so you can hear where they are when you get close! Definitely recommend!
