LifeStraw Home BPA-Free Water Filter Pitcher, 10-Cup, Aqua

I don't bother reviewing anything, but this is worth my time. Backstory: I had Brita filters. They broke. All. The. Time. Last one lasted 3 months before it sprung a hair line crack that dripped ever increasing pools of water all over the counter. I researched like crazy and this seemed like a common problem across brands, especially lately as companies cut corners on quality. So I looked at lifestraw - at first because the collar at the base seemed to ensure some stability and protection from cracks. (Yes, pay the extra 10 or whatever, it's worth it.) But then after I bought it, a whole world of amazing.... How I use it: I always boil my water first. Always have. We get water alerts where I live so I just boil all the time now. I pour into a large teapot to cool, then finally into a filter. Why Lifestraw is magic: 1.You can't boil PFAS out. Lifestraw DOES remove PFAS. These are the forever chemicals we're trying to avoid ingesting so why bother with anything else? 2. Despite only using boiled water, my Brita would develop algae. If I was late to change the Brita filter... Boom! By week 5, I see creeping light green growth. Gross. NEVER with lifestraw. 3. It doesn't filter out minerals and all the good stuff. There's some confusion about this fact, so I checked with several sources. 4. Water glasses that have been sitting out, and water that's been in bottles for a day or two... Are somehow not slimy? We wash pretty regularly so I can't say that things won't get slimy, ever. But we have noticed that water pitchers, water bottles, and water glasses that had been holding still water for prolonged periods... After two days they got slimy and needed to be cleaned, and now... Not. About those complaints in other reviews: 1. It's slow to filter. Yes, it is at first. You have to follow the instructions. The air pockets take a few full filters to dissipate. By the fourth time I fill my 10cup size after switching filters, water moves through pretty steadily. It's never *fast*.. but that's what my old Brita did and I got algae. So do you want fast or effective? 2. No really it's still slow AF. It's your water sediment clogging the filter. My water looks clear out of the trap and in a glass. But after I boil it, I see flakes and sediment of all sorts - hard water deposits, limescale, oxidized iron... And that's just what I recognize. This stuff sinks to the bottom, so I pour the cooled water into the lifestraw without stirring it up and discard the bottom inch or two of water. The more sediment you have, the more that filter will clog up. I think you can reverse filter to clear it out but check with the company on that. 3. It cracked. Did you get the collar? They ALL crack, my dude. But this one is the best so far, by far. There's probably more to say but I've run out of steam. Do what you will with this info. I just hope this company stays in business for a good long time. Feels so weird to say that but this is one company/product that doesn't leave me feeling screwed over.

I'm not picky about my water and have cheerfully drunk tap water for years. I still do when I'm upstairs or in a hurry, though I can definitely taste and appreciate the difference this filter makes. However my Mom is super picky about it and doesn't like the water they serve her at her Assisted Living. It's been an ongoing expense and a little back-breaking to keep bringing her the bottled water she prefers. So when I saw this pitcher reviewed, I had to try it. I started with the 10 cup one, and regret that because it's just too big for my minimal water consumption. It's heavy, and awkward to tilt into the fridge to get it on the top shelf, so my husband won't use it from the fridge and I have it out on the counter to get a more comfortable temperature for me. That's a long winded way of saying the 10 cup pitcher is too big. The 7 cup, however, now sits on my Mom's dresser so her aide can get her water she really likes at need (Mom has never liked cold drinks, so having it out in the room is just fine). Initial cleaning and filtering took a really long time for both pitchers, needing multiple refills at around 15 minutes per fill. Subsequently though they have not needed any maintenance. I'll get new filters for them at the two month mark as recommended. This really is a simple to use and effective filter. The lid is ingeniously designed to make it easy to add more water and to safely pour. The plastic makes the pitcher lighter, though I'm a little leery of it and might get the glass version at some point. I love that LifeStraw is helping get clean water to children with each purchase (I take it with a grain of salt because corporations are corporations after all, yet I hope there's something to the claim). I thoroughly recommend this pitcher.

Update: I took the lifestraw pitcher to the cabin in N. PA, where our water quality has diminished since fracking came to the area. I think it is pretty clear from my photo how awesome this filter is. The glass of water on the left is straight out of the tap (untreated well water). The glass on the right is after going thru the Lifestraw pitcher. Crystal clear and tastes as amazing as cleaner water that goes thru this filter. The water even flowed thru the filter quickly, as dirty as it was. Now I have to buy another one for my cabin. Lol. I still standby my previous statement that this pitcher and filter is probably not big enough for a family bigger than 2 people. I started keeping a second carafe in my fridge with filtered water just to make sure I have enough. When lifestraw makes a bigger system, you can believe I'll be buying it too. Original Review: After having a really gross mold problem in another brand filter, and a science experiment my daughter and I ran on our city water, I have struggled to find a filter that is amazing. Regrettably I am not a chemist, so I don't have any fancy measurements. However, I have been very impressed with this water filter/pitcher. The water is probably the clearest and cleanest tasting water I have ever tasted in my 38 years. I fill all my ice cube trays and cook with this filtered water now. I bought this during the global pandemic, and have a little peace of mind that it is filtering out microbes- something I have never been terribly concerned about before. Pros: +Amazing taste +Beautiful pitcher (plastic) +Fast filtering +Smart design! +When pouring, there is a stopper that prevents any water that hasn't been filtered yet (in the first stage reservoir) from going into the glass. +Smart filling so you do not have to remove the lid. +Although not initially plug and play, the setup is relatively easy. Just follow the instructions. Cons: +2 filters to replace (to me, it's worth it with the quality water I believe I'm getting) +The pitcher is tall- so may have to move some shelves around if you're putting it in the fridge. +Only holds 7 cups. For just my daughter and I, it's okay. For a larger family, it would not have enough capacity. +Wish it had come with the first replacement charcoal filter, would have been a nice touch. All in all, I'm impressed and happy. I think it's a great value, almost invaluable because I trust it's making our drinking water healthier. I don't need to be a chemist to taste the amazing difference between city tap and the Lifestraw filtered water. I can't wait to take it to the cabin and try it on the well water.

TL/DR: carefully inspect your pitchers upon arrival because a small crack is INCREDIBLY hard to see. Fill the pitcher with warm water and see if it leaks before you prep it for use. The package just arrived. When I went to open it I noticed the seal stickers on the box had been lifted and put back. I thought it was odd, but maybe the warehouse double checked the item prior to shipment, right? Wrong. When I got the pitcher out of the box it looked like there was a hair stuck to the inside. Upon inspection, it is a crack. Not a surface level crack - it goes all the way through the plastic to the inside of the pitcher. I’m now worried about using this item as it seems like it would leak water all over the fridge. Requesting a replacement. As an update: the new one arrived, it also had the seal tape hardly stuck on and again like it may have been open (LifeStraw needs to use better stickers if this is supposed to be tamper evident. There was a rectangle of sticker residue on the pitcher that the other one didn’t have, so now I’m wondering what that sticker said? I am also guessing my first purchase was cracked because someone tried to use alcohol to remove the residue which resulted in the crack in the first pitcher 🤔 Anyways, I followed the instructions for first time use (washing the pitcher, prepping the filters, and running the first batch). After the initial setup I dumped the first batch and rinsed the filters again just to be safe. I finally ran my first batch of water and it worked flawlessly. I have a known issue with iron bacteria (which isn’t harmful, but still) and the LifeStraw removed it all. The carbon filter is good for up to 64 fills (16 cups in a gallon x 40 gallons / 10 cups per fill) (NICE) and the membrane is good for up to 422 fills (SWEET). Just doing the math, this is less expensive than buying bottled water AND it has the added benefit of less plastic waste. The fact that it helps provide clean water to other areas of the world is an incredible final benefit. I highly recommend this product, but I also recommend thoroughly checking your pitcher because those hairline cracks are really difficult to see.

Ive had my LifeStraw water pitcher for a few months now but wanted to wait a bit before writing my review. Excellent purchase! I know it might be a bit late to get these micro particles completely out of my body but I can try not adding more into it. LifeStraw is one of the best water filtered pitcher on the market today. At first try it takes a bit longer to filter through but after a second go of it, the flow is much faster. If you're like me drink a lot of water, I recommend having one regular pitcher ready to drink and a continuance LifeStraw pitcher filtering water. There are two filters to this pitcher the membrain filter which last a year and the carborn filter about 2 months, both are very affordable. Not only is their product high quality, they share (GIFT!) their products and expertise to developing countries. It makes me happy to know that every time I make a purchase from LifeStraw, there is someone less fortunate who will also have access to clean, safe water.

I was looking for a really good water filter that I could take traveling with me. I travel for work and can be gone for up to 2 weeks at a time. I have been to a few places where the hotels didn't have filtered water and I ended up buying bottled water. I try to reduce my environmental impact as much as possible so I hate to buy bottled water or disposable items as much as possible. What I liked about this filter was that it filtered out way more than your typical Brita or other name brand. I bought the plastic version over glass since I would be packing it in my luggage. The filter water tastes great and is refreshing. The container is tall, but so far it fit in my hotel fridges (I usually stay in places with kitchens) and the sinks for filling up. I bring a couple of double walled water bottles with me and just fill them up from the filters easy to use pour spout. The first couple times you put water in the filter it is really slow but it gets a lot faster at filtering once you're past the cleaning stage. I just followed the directions for initial filter cleaning/ start up.

I used to be a tap water fanatic. At some point it started tasting weird and I haven't been able to stomach it since. After accepting that packs and packs of bottle water is not the way, and multitudes of product reviews, I settled on this pitcher. Initially I was concerned about slow filtering as well as it cracking easily based on other reviews. It completely removes whatever terrible chemical flavor is in the tap water. Like completely. I've banged the pitcher into the fridge door, counter and fridge shelves quite a few times in the 5 months I've had it and there's not sure much a a hairline crack or scuff. It only holds about a cup and a half at a time so it's not the fastest but it saves me tons since I'm not buying bottled water anymore. I just fill the reservoir every or every other time. I'm so spoiled I now use the filtered water to make ice cubes. Actually if I went into the fridge right now and found the pitcher exploded and water everywhere I'd immediately buy another one. If you're on the fence choosing a brand, this is the one!

Update: 2025 Since I had not recycled this hunk of junk yet, I thought I would give it one last shot to use the last filter, couldn't even get the big filter out of it before it cracked. This was a waste of money or so many different reasons and very poorly designed. I think it works well but if you can't use it easily what's the point no one's going to do that. Thought was nice, water tasted good and tested well - big HOWEVER, it is so TALL of a jug that makes it extremely inconvenient- to the point its unusable in my household. It does not fit under the sink to refill it - so had to keep an additional jug with spout close by to fill it, it DOES NOT fit in my refrigerator, even with moving all the shelving around - either not tall enough or bottom too wide for the door beverage spots. Also found fuzzy mold growing on inside of blue part - even though washed with vinegar once weekly. It's also slightly difficult to remove the filters to change, but could have gotten over that. If it was redesigned to be shorter, I would buy it again - but not this current design. Now have to recycle it, adding to trash pile which is part of what was hoping to avoid making more of.

Waste of money. I watched the manufactures video and followed it. The systen took 6 hours to filter a egg cup of water. I took the carbon filter out and tried again thinking the filter was causing an issue as the main filter was factory installed and must have been correct. I am so sorry I wasted money on this and spare filters. Advise to avoid...

Too big to fit in the fridge. Too big to fit under the tap. Too difficult and expensive to find genuine filter replacements. Better finding a well stocked brand at your local store.

Die Wasserkanne von Life Straw ist super. Ich habe die 1,6 L Wasserkanne bestellt, ich brauche keine Wasserflaschen mehr tragen. Wasserkanne vor dem Gebrauch 2x mit Leitungswasser durchlaufen lassen um die beiden Filter zu reinigen, danach kann man das Leitungswasser trinken. Es hat keinen Nachgeschmack. In unserer Stadt haben wir extrem hartes Wasser, Wasserhärtegrad 21, auch sehr kalkhaltig. Das gefilterte Wasser kann man am nächsten Tag auch noch trinken, schmeckt nicht abgestanden. Die Kappe von den Carbonfilter lässt sich sehr schwer entfernen. Anleitung liegt bei.
