The lid is of the same material, which is both good and bad. It's easy to fill up and wipe off overspill, the lid also seals around the edges. It's a bit harder to seal between the pockets though and being flexible, any movement they unseal anyway. Functionally very good for freezing things and keeping them mostly separate. When I make ice cream it's very good for making different flavours and the silicone doesn't crack when scooping out ice cream like some harder plastics to from the freezer.
