Featuring a combination of chapters authored by leading scholars, researchers and practitioners from around the world, this textbook takes into account the historical development of international relations and the web of dynamics that forms the subject, resulting in a clear analysis of the field from a variety of perspectives. Chapters cover topics including race, colonialism, gender, sexuality, digital globalization, the environment and security studies and are supported by a range of case studies, key boxes and illustrative material to aid students in their practical application of theoretical ideas. The book is also complimented by a bespoke curated website, featuring a regularly updated collection of interactive learning material and hosted on E-International Relations, the world's leading open access IR website. Portraying the most compelling issues of our time, and presenting the necessary tools to analyse and debate the subject, this is an invaluable resource for anyone studying international relations. Review: Great resource - Bought for our daughter in her first year at university this book is written by one of her personal lecturers. Review: An amazing introduction to IR! Must for Beginners! - E-IR is respected and trusted by IR scholars worldwide. This new book is an enriching and, at the same time, concise introduction to the field. It covers History, Theory, Global Structures, and Current Issues. More importantly, it is the most up-to-date introductory text available at the moment, replete with latest examples and case studies. But perhaps the best thing about the book is that it draws upon both old and new scholarship. Classic sources are obviously referred to, but so are the latest ones; not only from the west but global south as well. They've tried to take a global approach, moving away from westcentric notions, and also included a separate chapter on Global IR, a plus point over most other "famous" introductory texts. The chapter on history takes an Innovative approach (innovative for introductory texts in IR) and begins with the year 1492, comparing it with 1648, the first mythic big bang of IR. In addition to this, E-IR has also dedicated a separate section on its website to the book. The section is divided chapter-wise and contains supplementary learning material (including latest developments). It is indeed an invaluable resource for beginners!
