KYOCERA Electric Diamond Knife Sharpener – For Ceramic & Japanese Steel

It's very easy to use and gives very sharp blades. Sharpen both steel and ceramic knives. However, it will only sharpen knives with blades that extend below the handle; blades that flush with the handle cannot be sharpened properly as the handle gets in the way.

The actual sharpening feature works very well, the fact that this is battery operated is a big negative as far as I'm concerned. This should be USB rechargeable or plug-in, not operated on 4 AA batteries! Otherwise, the sharpener does a great job of restoring the sharp edges to the knife.

First thing I had to do was disassemble the unit to free the grind wheels which were stuck on the power shaft and not floating properly. Upside - I was able to take a pretty big chip out of the chef's knife and managed to put the edge back on without too much trouble. Downside - the motor is no where near powerful enough. It does encourage a slow, methodical approach which using a diamond hone requires, but it means holding the knife in a way that the blade was contacting the wheel light as a feather. One tip - use a few drips of water on the blade and the knife sharpens to a better edge. Do not soak the unit and dry it out regular with paper towel and clean the wheels once finished. Do not expect quick results - this is not for you if that's what you're looking for, but it will get you where you want to be if you take your time and have patience. It only really works with Kyocera knives, unless the other type you try to sharpen has a similarly thin blade and handler shape.

Bought this to sharpen my Kyocera ceramic knife, but now it just sits on the shelf. It is battery powered, and lacks the oomph to sharpen the blade. **At all.** It is a toy tool, not a serous sharpening device. Don't waste your money. When your ceramic knife gest dull, toss it and get a real knife, whether carbon steel or stainless.

I have had a set of Kyocera knives for about 5 years and they had lost their original sharpness. Kyocera will sharpen your knives for free but by the time you pay for shipping both ways this looked like the best option. The knives I have are 7", 5" and 3" long and the only one that I cannot get the full length sharpened is the 3". On that one I was able to get about 1/2 of the length sharpened. The other two were able to be sharpened on the whole length. It was easy and took only a short time and it really made a difference. I think it was well worth the purchase.

Sharpener did what it was suppose to do on a ceramic Kyocera knife. No more micro chips and sharp as it was when we bought it. I thought I would be able to use it on my Wustoff knives, but the bolster wouldn't let me get to the heel of the blade. I would definitely recommend for ceramic Kyocera blades.

The unit is nicely packaged and easy to load with batteries. That's about the best of it. When you push the button to spin the wheel, the motor sounds cheap and loud. Thick blades don't load easily, and thin blades sometimes seem to not contact the diamond wheel. The motor is also underpowered and stalls out easily, which is also somewhat of a bonus because maintaining alignment on the wheel is approximate at best and there is no tactile feedback. The fact that it stalls out means it's really hard to get a deep bevel (or any bevel at all, actually). This sharpener sort of works and it sort of improves the edge sometimes, but it's not worth the time or the money.

Une première livraison avec un article qui ne fonctionnait pas du tout. un nouvel article a été renvoyé avant même que je n'ai eu le temps de renvoyer le mien. Parfait pour le SAV !!! L'article fonctionne sur piles c'est un peu dommage, il est à la hauteur des prix des couteaux Kyocera mais c'est décevant de mettre aussi cher pour un aiguisage d'entretien... car un gros aiguisage n'est pas possible avec cet article !

affilatore affidabile per i coltelli, semplicissimo da usare, non bisogna fare troppa forza sulla lama altrimenti perde un po' di forza, ma con calma i coltelli vengo ben affilati. Non riesco a farlo per le.forbici, ma forse sono io l'impedito.

My only mistake was not reading the older reviews. This product is a joke. I would keep it if the price were $3.

It is a bit on the pricy side for a knife sharpener but it does successfully sharpen my dull ceramic knife numerous times. I won't say back to brand new condition but significantly and noticable sharper. If you like your ceramic knives, I recommend this sharpener.
