The box sounds really nice. Warm deep and sentimental. Just like I would want a music box to sound like. I did not think I could have so much fun, plotting melodies and punching holes. It is a manual process and can be tedious if you look at it that way. But you end up making a product that is completely analog and mechanical. And there is something very special to me about that. It sounds so pretty and it is fun to make your own custom tunes. This is not chromatic, so the note range is very limited. But the constraints are good for creativity. I think. And I am practicing on a 15 note before jumping into a 30 note music box. I think I found a new hobby. Review: Amazing Sound and Super Fun to Play - I couldn't wait to try this little guy out when I got it. When you get this music box, take everything out of the little cardboard box it comes in, close the box and hold the music box on top of the box to play the Happy Birthday strip provided (and it's a lovely rendition of happy birthday too). If you play it just in your hands, you will hardly hear the sound. As anyone who has ever taken a music box mechanism out of a jewelry box knows, you need the box to make the sound resonate. It's a lovely, high but mellow tone. Not twangy or tinny sounding. It's ready to use right from the box. I'm going to rig a cigar box to work as it's main body when I get the chance. The hold punch I received needed a little filing as the punch wouldn't go through the hole, but that was easy to fix. I'm going to get more of these for Christmas gifts this year! ## Features - Create your own musical melody - Punch holes in the paper strips provided - Happy birthday melody included to get you started - Play any song you wish - Paper strip refills also available ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B000HAUEFY | | Additional Features | Lightweight | | Art Craft Kit Type | music_box_making | | Best Sellers Rank | #1,359,850 in Home & Kitchen ( See Top 100 in Home & Kitchen ) #663 in Musical Boxes & Figurines | | Brand | Kikkerland | | Brand Name | Kikkerland | | Color | Silver | | Customer Reviews | 4.4 out of 5 stars 1,080 Reviews | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00612615026308 | | Included Components | punch, machinery, 3 strips for punching | | Item Dimensions | 5 x 2.8 x 2.5 inches | | Item Weight | 6.4 ounces | | Item dimensions L x W x H | 5 x 2.8 x 2.5 inches | | Manufacturer | Kikkerland | | Manufacturer Part Number | 1200 | | Material | Paper | | Material Type | Paper | | Model Number | 1200 | | Number of Packs | 1 | | Number of Pieces | 1 | | Product Style | Modern | | Size | 1-Bundle | | Subject Character | Music Box | | UPC | 612615026308 803219554483 885739275987 | | Unit Count | 1 Count | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Kikkerland - **Color:** Silver - **Included Components:** punch, machinery, 3 strips for punching - **Item dimensions L x W x H:** 5 x 2.8 x 2.5 inches - **Material:** Paper ## Images ![Kikkerland Make Your Own Music Box Kit, Silver - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41cH8EiPk2S.jpg) ![Kikkerland Make Your Own Music Box Kit, Silver - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41V2yoyJ28L.jpg) ![Kikkerland Make Your Own Music Box Kit, Silver - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61sWdlq0WmL.jpg) ![Kikkerland Make Your Own Music Box Kit, Silver - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41+cE2KDSRL.jpg) ![Kikkerland Make Your Own Music Box Kit, Silver - Image 5](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41nmmRqqH+L.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: What does it come with?** A: It comes with the small music box works, a punch tool, a pre-punched strip, and three blank strips you can punch yourself. It is small, so I returned it. I do not think I would be able to punch the melody I wanted to enter accurately. There is a larger one available, but only the few blank sheets that come with it. You can't order more blanks - but I think you could make them yourself easily enough. **Q: Can I play the Puppet's song from FNAF2?** A: Hi SanjayThe strip has a range (width) of two octaves; CDEFGABCDEFGABC; and is 52 beats long. There is an equal number of off beats. As long as the Puppet's song from FNAF2 fits within these parameters then I can see no reason you cannot play itIf the Puppet's song from FNAF2 is longer than this then you can tape two or more melody strips together.I hope this helps.PinkCatShop **Q: How to let it play music automatically? It will only play music when I twist it** A: I am trying to add Christmas music to a wooden advent calendar. I would like the boxes to have pressure points so that when each door to the calendar is opened a different Christmas song will play. Is this possible? **Q: Hi, somebody has a dimension drawing (mechanical drawing with dimensions) for this device?** A: Hello M. QuirogaThank you for your question.I do not have a technical drawing but the main body of the music box occupies a space of approximately 2Β½" Wide X 1 7/8" Deep X 1" High (6.5 cm X 4.7 cm X 2.5 cm).The handle extends 1ΒΌ" (3.2 cm) and has a turning circle of approximately 1" (2.5 cm). There are pre-drilled holes to enable you to mount the box.I hope this helps.Best WishesPinkCatShop ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Heartwarming, fun and enjoyment *by S***S on March 2, 2025* With 15 notes and a small price point I didn’t know what to expect. I'm going to get more of these for Christmas gifts this year! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Hole Punch *by D***D on February 27, 2013* **UPDATE** 9/15/2014: I've finally gotten another hole punch (I found it at a local craft store in just the right size) and I tell you what, the box still plays as beautifully as it did when I first purchased it. A long lasting gift in my honest opinion. I've read all the review about this product, but did I never find anything regarding the quality of the hole punch that is included with the kit. I got my music box, and was extremely satisfied with the product: the sound was beautiful, the gears never failed, the whole thing help up extremely well. So having spent 2 weeks composing songs using a piano as reference, i tried to punch out my own songs, and two things happened. 1) I noticed that what I had played on the piano was different for the music box (i played an E-F chord on my piano, which was equivalent to the F-G chord on the music box. Minor problem, not an issue to me.) 2) The included hole punch (which granted punches holes much smaller than normal hole punchers, so finding another is a pain) has holes on both sides of device, that, whenever the pin doesn't line up with the hole and you try to punch it through, it comes out the other side, rendering the entire thing useless. Many attempts and ideas to fix it ended up in failure. So to those who may end up with the same problem I had, I figured it'd be nice to post where you could find a replacement, or at least the size of the hole it punches as reference, assuming that all of them are made the same relative size. The diameter of the holes made from my hole punch is 2mm or 3/32" You can find Euro hole punches on here but they're METAL hole punchers, so I am unaware of their effective use on paper, but hey, then you can make metal strips. http://www.amazon.com/Euro-Metal-Punch-Pliers-1-8mm/dp/B003JD9VX2/ ----------- 1.8mm Metal Hole punchers http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Punch-Pliers-1-25mm-44158/dp/B003L7PLNK/ ----------- 1.25mm Metal Hole punchers (if you want smaller holes. just make sure your accurate.) http://www.amazon.com/Fiskars-12-23508897-Punch-16-Inch-Circle/dp/B0001DT3YU/ ----------- 1/16" Hole Punch (a bit smaller holes, just be accurate) http://www.amazon.com/Fiskars-12-23518897-Punch-8-Inch-Circle/dp/B0001DT3ZE/ ----------- 1/8" Hole Punch (slightly larger, be careful with holes that have to be close together) A long review, I know, I apologize, but I hope this helps someone else as much as it did me. Other than the hole punch, the music box kit was amazing, I highly recommend it, it looks amazing and sounds beautiful. ## Frequently Bought Together - Kikkerland Make Your Own Music Box Kit, Siler - Music Box Refill Blank Paper for 15 Note Handcrank Music Box Movement 10 Pcs - Kikkerland Make Your Own Music Box Paper Refills, 5-Piece --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - πŸ›’ **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** β€” Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** β€” Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - πŸ’° **No Hidden Fees** β€” All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - πŸ”„ **15-Day Free Returns** β€” Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - πŸ”’ **Secure Payments** β€” Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** β€” Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.com.pa/products/82500412-kikkerland-make-your-own-music-box-kit-silver](https://www.desertcart.com.pa/products/82500412-kikkerland-make-your-own-music-box-kit-silver) --- *Product available on Desertcart Panama* *Store origin: PA* *Last updated: 2026-10-11*
