Does this product clean baseball caps especially dark gray?

It works fine on light colored felt and beaver hats. The dark cleaner is to be used on dark colored felt and beaver hats. I would suggest a product designed for cleaning baseball caps. If the hat is wool, the dark color cleaner might work. No guarantees what so ever. Perhaps Woolite fabric cleaner would be your best bet. ☃️

I bought this item before.left a white dust-worked well. ordered agin. hat absorbs form, no dust. normal?

I my case this product simply stained the hat, a beautiful old Stetson Gun Club fedora. Instead of creating a dry dust to be brushed off it absorbed into the fur felt and ruined. Worst hat care product that I have ever used.
