Product Description Like so many living legends and phenomenal talents, Stevie Ray died in a helicopter crash in 1991. Luckily, there are scores of recordings documenting the genius of this Texan blues guitarist, including these appearances on Austin City Limits and more. 1983-89/color/63 min/NR/fullscreen. desertcart.com Few guitarists ever mastered the Fender Stratocaster like the late, great Texas bluesman Stevie Ray Vaughan, and this priceless digital video disc collects both of the sizzling appearances that Vaughan and his solid band, Double Trouble, made on the PBS concert series Austin City Limits. Combined to form the most popular program in the show's distinguished history, the concerts were taped in 1983 and 1989; both provide a valuable portrait of Vaughan's astounding artistic development. The performances serve as bookends to Vaughan's brilliant career with Double Trouble, showing (in the words of producer Terry Lickona) a striking contrast between "zero self-confidence" and "pure magic," but in both cases you can see a master at work. Songs include "Pride and Joy," "Texas Flood," "Voodoo Chile," "Cold Shot," and "Riviera Paradise." This great-sounding DVD also includes the posthumous music video "Little Wing," featuring clips of Double Trouble and archival footage of blues greats from the 1920s to the mid-1990s. If you're even a part-time blues fan, Stevie Ray Vaughan: Live from Austin, Texas is a must-have disc. --Jeff Shannon Review: Gotta have this. Period - As I write this I am still watching this DVD (seen it many times over the years on TV). I hope this helps you set up the sound. It is good enough; I wouldn't say don't buy it 'cause the sound is too poor though I agree the sound could be better if they would have tried. [for better see update bellow] Here is my first experience: The first concert listened to it in STERIO mode ( which shows up on my rig's display as 2.0). My monster sub is still working at this setting so I would call it 2.1 Then for the second concert, which sounded really muffled on the STERIO 2.0 setting I changed over to surround and it sounds much better. His vocals are way more forward than in the first concert and they have turned his guitar down some, less forward. more base as well. His base player is almost non existent, sound wise, in the first concert. Well that is what I am experiencing as I write this. Buy it ! Unless you don't want a piece of heaven. UPDATE: Once I had a nights sleep and thought about it . . . well check this out : When the concert starts hit your "Pop Up Menu" button on your disc player remote and you will see this list of options on the TV screen: CHAPTER/SONGS AUDIO TRACKS LYRICS Go to AUDIO TRACKS and you will see a choice of STERIO DOLBY DIGITAL I usually listen to my music through stereo. There is no obvious set up at the opening of the DVD, The concert just starts up in stereo but there is no indication of this. My rig happened to be on surround. At that point it sounded bad. I switched to stereo on the rig and it sounded better but not great I think this is what most people are hearing (see first experience comments). Just now I set the on screen DVD machine setting to DOLBY DIGITAL and my rig to auto/surround etc. At that point the sound came alive ! My rig shows "Doubly Digital" and the sound is pretty darn great. Vocals forward, bass player heard just fine. Sooooooo . . . . use the DVD set up and make sure it matches your disc player and amp set up. All should basically be on Dolby Digital Surround : ) I repeat . . . : ) Review: SRV - what's not to like? - I missed Hendrix, never saw Clapton either. But I did have the good fortune of seeing Stevie Ray Vaughn in person. Sadly that he's gone, but his music lives on in this great DVD. You'll only be disappointed there aren't more songs on it.

The two times I met SRV....
If you are in my age group, you may remember watching the 1983 airing of Austin city limits, In the pre 10,000 channel days of TV. I was in high school, and saw a guitar player for the first time, who took my breath away...nobody did VooDoo-Chile!...Voodoo was sacred ground. Stevie not only played it, he respected it. WHAT A THRILL! The 1989 show showed a refined, matured, and best of all clean Stevie, at the top of his game. His facial expressions that were part of his playing were there, but now mixed with alot of smiles. What an Impact SRV made on people, players, and music in America. This is one of the Best Vid's out there, for the music, the guitar player, or the inspiration to transform your life. If I had to have one SRV video, this is it! The video work, camera shots & editing are superb. Double Trouble needs recognition here too, ALL superb players and again at the top of their game. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!! RIP Stevie, "will see ya in the next one."

Love SRV!
Great to have these two performances. Ask I've read, SRV is much more relaxed at the 1989 show. Audio mix is solid. Worth having in your collection!

Stevie Ray Vaughn Gone Too Soon
I received this video in a timely fashion and just watched it last night with my headphones on. I was so impressed with his live performances during his '83 and '89 shows. I highly recommend this video even though dated it still has good quality in sound and visual application. SRV played with such feeling and expression and Double Trouble backed him quite soundly. The last video Little Wing sums up Stevie's influences and is a wonderful homage to the blues and some of the greatest blues players of all time. It's a shame that such a talented musician like SRV perished way too soon. Thank you SRV for still living through your videos and music still today so future generations can enjoy your talent and spirit.

Almost perfect
The DVD DOES NOT HAVE AUDIO PROBLEMS now that we got that out of the way it's a split between Stevie's first and second concert on ACL Few songs are form 83 you can differentiate because he is wearing blue and the other is from 89 where he is in black. I was looking for the 89 full concert because it was his best performance in my opinion but still hits the mark. Mainly wanted the DVD for tightrope and voodoo child which it has but the vooodo child performance is from 83 not 89 so kinda bites but it's still good. Pros-has all the hits split between two different concerts Cons - if you want the 89 version of voodoo child you will be disappointed but it's srv so you don't loose period I would still highly recommend this to anyone looking for the 89 ACL because I couldn't find it new anywhere except for Amazon so I'd jump on it they keeep taking it off of YouTube so can't rely on that platform anymore hence why I purchased it

Great DVD
A great addition to any library of blues/rock guitarists. SRV was one-of-a-kind and a virtuoso on the guitar. If you love outstanding guitarists check this out.
