I have seen some articles and reviews that say SnapBridge has its issues and feels incomplete. Is the camera set up to do updates to fix this?

Both the camera's firmware and the Snapbridge app can be updated by the user. We currently - as of 2/2/2017 - have an issue with some camera's communicating, using Snapbridge, with users of iOS version 10.2 or later. We are working to identify the issue and will issue the necessary update when the issue has been fixed.

Does this include a rechargable battery?

I’m stuck between getting the canon eos rebel t6i and this camera. what are the differences between the two? which brand would be better to buy?

It depends on what you're going to use the camera for. Both are outstanding cameras. I find canon seems to take better action shots, sports, in motion type things... the Nikon is a great all around camera. It will still take good action photos don't get me wrong, just canon is tops when it comes to that. The Nikon box lense that comes with the 5600 is great.
