JACKEL - Original Radon Sump Dome (Model: SMR16101-CV)

The sump pump cover arrived just as shown. Nice molding and thick walls. Everything fit together well. Following another reviewer, thank you, I used a reasonable amount of silicone seal on all the pre-installed plastic nuts and let it set up. Also put a small amount of silicone grease, or you could use Vaseline, on the stainless bolts which allowed then to screw in with very little force and none of the nuts fell off. My cement floor wasn't perfectly level but again, a good layer of silicone seal, almost two tubes, allowed for a good seal. 1/4 inch by 1 1/4 Tap-Cons with stainless fender washers, you need 12, were used to anchor it to the floor. My sump pump discharge pipe is sch 40 1 1/2 inch. The included seal worked great. The threaded fitting for the radon pipe connection is for 3-inch sch 40 threaded pipe adapter. If you have 4-inch pipe, you could use an adapter which for an inch or so, wouldn't slow down the flow very much. If they provided a 4-inch adapter, that would make this cover perfect. I put the provided lid bolts and washers through the lid while upside down resting on a flat surface to hold them in and applied the lid rubber seal over the bolts. After turning the lid over to mount, the seal stayed in place and the lid was easily bolted down. The supplied rubber grommet allows the sump pump wire to seal well and I added another small hole for the wire to my sump warning switch. There are several other sections in the grommet if you run another wire for another pump or something else. Pulling out this grommet from the lid will allow easy removal of the wires when you need to remove the lid for pump replacement. The added viewing window is a plus so you can see what is going on under the lid. This is a good sump pump cover which allows for the needed disassembly when sump pump service is needed. I've seen some covers that just have a plate with tons of silicone which would make disassembly a nightmare. I should have installed this cover years ago.

Incredible build quality! I could jump up and down on this thing and I doubt it would even flex. I can't believe it only costs a little over $100. It seemed expensive when I ordered it because I expected flimsy plastic like the other sump covers I have seen. After seeing how well this is built, its an incredible price. They seemed to have thought of every possible way you would want to run pipes/wires into the sump. Lots of adapters included. Just be careful with them, I dropped the one needed to connect to my radon fan and it cracked when it hit the concrete. I didn't bother to see if they could replace it for me because I was able to repair it with some weld-on. It was a pretty hard fall, I don't fault the quality of the adapter. It is rather big, so make sure you measure your sump to ensure you have enough room for it.

This dome is very solidly built and includes all of the accessory parts I can imagine anyone ever needing for even a complex sump basin project. The box comes with the lid and base, plus a separate box of parts which enable you to drill extra holes into the base of the lid, and seal them. A wide variety of fittings, gaskets and adapters are included so you can configure and seal the dome in whatever configuration you prefer, including running your connections through the side ports on the base if you wish. The lid gasket for the electrical connections can be removed, drilled, and cut to whatever configuration you may need, in my case two thick electrical connections and three sensor wires in a bundle. I also setup the lid vent with a two foot length of 3" PVC, in case I decide I want an active radon solution in the future. In my box, I received two 1.25" base plates for the lid discharge hole, and no 1.5" plate, which was an assembly error in their factory, which meant I was unable to complete my DIY project on the planned installation day. I called the company and they shipped me the missing part, but it took five days to arrive from Indiana to Michigan via USPS... The hardest part by far of installing this is attaching the lid. The lid gasket does not want to stay in position and I had to use pieces of duct tape to hold it in place. Also, the gasket for the discharge pipe will allow you to slide the lid up and down the length of the pipe for access to the sump pit, however, at least for me it was not possible to slide the lid *onto* the discharge pipe with the gasket attached to the lid. I had to put the lid over the discharge pipe first, and then attach the gasket. I had illusions of being able to relatively quickly get this lid on and off when I want access to the sump pit, but that's not really as easy as it seems. Sump pit access is possible, but it's awkward to remove the lid, and if you take the lid all the way off the discharge pipe, you're going to need to unscrew things other than the lid to get everything back in place. I also experienced the issue others have reported that the plastic nuts fell into the sump basin while I was attaching the lid. The key to avoiding this is to carefully start each bolt by hand and avoid pushing down, but rather to wait until the threads on the bolt "catch" before applying much force. Lastly, the instructions are rudimentary. If you're not comfortable using a caulk gun, masonry bit and drill, or handling PVC pipe, you should look for professional help. Overall this dome does exactly what it is supposed to do. There are a few design issues such as nothing to hold the lid gasket in place, nothing to hold the lid nuts in place, and apparently some quality control problems at the factory. However, I wouldn't hesitate to use this product again in the future because it's very well made, solid and does what it supposed to do.

We needed to do some radon mitigation in the basement, and of course the sump pump is the place to start. This dome is super-sturdy - you don't have to worry about anything falling on it and cracking it. It has access covers for all sorts of situations. We are very happy with it. And of course it decreased our radon readings a lot! I'd say we'd get it again, but it's so sturdy we won't need to!

Super easy to install. Have yet to test Radon exposure but I feel confident it will do its job. One thing to note is to be careful not to strip by over tightening the bolts on top of the cover

If you have a wet sump in your basement, even without a pump in it, you need to seal is up tight. Most likely the one(s) you have are allowing radon to be sucked into your house. Culprits in this radon pumping are laundry dryers, bathroom exhaust fans, stove hood fans and even your HVAC return air ducting. The first step in stopping the radon invasion in a basement is to seal these sump wells and all the pipes and power cords that come from the sump - this cover does just that. It comes with all the caps, seals and gaskets you're likely to need. You'll want to dry-fit this cover base on the floor, locating the water pipe and radon/sewer gas pipe exit point and centered over the existing sump. Then, with a large Sharpie, mark the parameter and where the holes for screw-down bolts/screws will go. When you've got the screw holes marked, drill the holes 1 1/2" deep using a hammer-drill and 1/4" masonry bit (the bit comes with Tapcon anchor pack) . Sweep up the concrete dust and wipe that parameter with a damp cloth to make sure it is dust-free, and lay a healthy bead of silicon calk just inside the parameter mark you made earlier. There is no gasket for the base-to-concrete surface, so you're sealing this off so no radon escapes from that area. Remember the base has a pre cut hole for your furnace/AC condensate drain (garden hose size), so if you're not going to use that, you'll need to plug that hole. The cover comes with pre-cut holes for radon fan pipe and water pump pipes, with adapters for common sizes. They also provide 4 extra nuts for the cover in case you knock one off into the sump and cant find it. When mounting the big cover gasket, place it up-side-down on the bottom of the cover and stick the eight stainless steel bolts through the cover and into the gasket before mounting. This will hold the gasket in place, aligned with the nut holes. The cover mounts to the larger base and does not use silicon - only the gasket. Remove the protective film from the inspection window before you mount the cover. Air-out the basement and recheck the radon level for about a week. You may not need any further mitigation if you've properly sealed up that nasty sump well.

I have installed this about two weeks ago and it has already reduced the radon in my home. I am hooking up some schedule 40 PVC pipe to the 3" threaded adapter plate this weekend and then using a radon fan outside of my house to vent my foundation. I like this so far and if I remember I will update this review with the before and after affects of the radon reduction once the system is installed. Installing this cover requires the use of 1/4" tapcon screws with a 3/8 tapcon concrete drill bit. I also sealed about where the cover meets the concrete floor with silicon. Installation was simple and easy, it just took about two hours to make it look nice and fit perfectly. This cover is also really strong, but I would not recommend standing on it nor piling anything on top of it.

Had this cover installed by a plumber 3 weeks ago, and it works great. We also attached a fan to move radon out. In the sump room the monitor registered between 300-400 bq/m3 before installation. 😀With this cover and fan it fluctuates now between 5-20 bq/m3. Wish I’d had this installed years ago.

This sump pump lid is an excellent cover for your sump pump if you want to install a Radon mitigation system from your sumpit. The cover already has the holes for the Radon fan, sump pump and has a nice window that allows you to look into your sumpit to check the water level. Brilliant idea. Easy to install..my Radon level before the Radon fan was 1000 Bq3M ...after the new sumpit cove and the radon fan installation the Radon levels went to 10 Bq3M...I leave in Canada and here as per Health Canada GOV website anything over 200Bq3M its unhealthy to breath in. So I am very happy with the purchase and the results. I would definitely recommend

This dome is superb. It is well made, the seals and fittings are quality and there are plenty of different sizes to accommodate various sizes. The window is really nice. Lost one star due to high price.

The cover is very solid and looks to be customizable for different situations.
