It cleans, lubricates and penetrates any material I have tried it on. No squeaky door hinges, no squeaky firearms. I have heard of it protecting leather, haven't really tried that because I'm not a huge leather person. As for the smell, well... I have been around 80W-90 gear oil and that stuff stinks, so I can handle the little bit of manly oil smell this stuff gives off... but I also like the smell of diesel, so to each their own. I like to keep all of my tools, knives, and anything that moves cleaned/lubricated and this does all of that and so much more. Now I don't have to worry about having multiple different lubricants laying around waiting for a use.
