I've never done that, but immediately starts registering my heart rate as soon as I put it on. So I don't see why it wouldn't work for that purpose.

Practically the 2 models have the same basic features heart rate monitor, what distinguishes FT 7 is that you can save the data on your computer or laptop through her polar site, and the other difference is that it has an option that is called "Energy pointer" that will determine the optimal intensity at which the maximum fat burning effect is achieved.
