Safety Speed Cut C4 Vertical Panel Saw

I give this saw five stars now considering all factors and leaving some emotion out. I bought the saw because of space constraints in my shop trying to handle and cut large panels on my table saw without any help. That, and at the time I was getting ready to start on my kitchen cabinets. I set the saw up and added my additional options of wheels, stand, extensions and Quick-stop guage. Probably due to something during shipping, my saw would not cut a straight line. It was off by nearly 3/32" over a 48" cut (I cannot believe Safety Speed Cut would crate it up and ship it when it was off by that much). After making the first few test cuts, I thought I was going to have to cut pieces oversized and then trim to square on the table saw, but after reading the manual and making some adjustments this was not the case. So here is why I still gave it five stars. The instruction manual was very thorough and clearly explained how to check for square if your cuts were off. They walk you through every possible option and even explain how to make up a large tri-square to dial the saw back into square. After making up the large tri-square (at some additional expense) the saw was very easy to adjust and before long I had the saw cutting square straight pieces for my cabinets. This saw makes handling large plywood sheets easy, and with less effort and fatigue compared with a table saw, you can have 10 sheets cut down to size in no time at all. The optional Quick-stop guage makes repetitive cuts quick and accurate - great for cabinet sides, backs etc. So, other than a slight initial alignment problem, the saw has been one of the best additions to my shop. I am considering adding the dust collection option in the future and my only observation there is that it is a fairly high dollar option ($347) for something so necessary. In my opinion, this should be standard on all of the saws instead of an accessory. Another plus in choosing this saw over a 3HP cabinet saw is that you can use standard 110V power versus adding a 220V circuit for your cabinet saw. If you work with large sheets often, I highly recommend this saw especially if you have a smaller shop. If you have room to spare, you might consider the H-4 saw which is what I originally wanted but could not get into my shop.

Ok saw. Hard to line up for vertical cuts. Also, the saw guide next to blade can get bent. Must have the extensions and wheels to make it easier to use. Good use of floor space.

Hey there, I run a remodeling biz and do a great deal of custom cabinet work. We used to cut our 4x8 sheet goods on a unisaw but we were needing more room in our enclosed shop for other equipment and decided to go with a panel saw in our truck bay. We have had this saw for a year now so I can probably give you a good idea on it. What we wanted was a compact panel saw that would get us close to our dimensions then we could "tune" up our various panels on our unisaw/sliding table combo without having to wrestle with the 4x8's. We looked over this saw's larger cousin at HD and thought that accuracy might be a problem with it. Thus we had lower expectations prior to our purchase. It met or exceeded our expectations so I give it 4 stars for that but here are the hitches, you'll need to buy the extensions for the 8' panels, and if your thinking of moving this beast then the wheels are necessary. The extensions are just long enough to load a 4x8 sheet without the sheet falling off the outside roller but that requires the panel to be resting against the blade, on mdf panels which are 97" long they actually just tip off the outside roller as we load them, this really can be upsetting when your working alone, they planned it that close! Another 2" of metal on each extension and this wouldn't happen. Portable?? - nope not in our opinion, unless you plan on being on site for a long while etc. - heavy and awkward. Accurate? moderately, we can get close but we build to very tight tolerances and it is hard to nail a cut to within a 1/16th". Plus the panel can move around while you slide it through the saw and can slightly alter your cut or the angle of your cut. We made some feather boards that clamp on to the unit and hold the panels up against the metal rails to stop this movement action. (Why is it we have to jig the heck out of every tool!!??) We measure for at least an extra 1/4" on our panel cuts and then cut them accurately on our Unisaw. We also had to adjust it to cut square after unpackaging, but almost every tool I have ever bought needs some work out of the box. If you want accuracy that is dead on accuracy you need to expect to adjust your equipment and do it often. It took about 2 hours but it had good directions to get it set up. It has held our adjustments since. We are slicing and dicing probably 15 to 20 sheets a week. FYI this unit is the same as the Milwaukee and at the time was much cheaper so we bought this saw and added the Milwaukee options as they were cheaper on Amazon at the time. But like I said we got what we expected, and we enjoy not beating ourselves up with the 4x8 sheet goods. Best of luck and hope this helps

This item is the Milwaukee 15 amp 3-1/4 Hp Panel saw Model # 6480-20. It sails at many other sites for under $1,000.00. all of witch include a blade. Witch frustrates me the most because I have bought hundreds of saws over the years and this is the first time I have ever received a saw without a blade?? I am assuming the seller buys the common Milwaukee 15 amp 3-1/4 Hp Panel saw, slap on a decal, remove the blade and sell it separately, then sell the panel saw as a Safety Speed! I am not unhappy with the actual product, but I do feel cheated when I spend 1,538.00, for a Safety Speed Saw and receive a Milwaukee 15 amp 3-1/4 Hp Panel saw Model # 6480-20 commonly bought for around $1,000.00 Contacted the seller ACME Tools and was told I could return it at my own cost. They would not pay for the returned shipping

I bought a c4 2 years ago.It was the best investment I have ever made.I need too cut plywood which I do and make alot of cabinets.I no longer have too take it outside on saw horses.I slide my plywood in and it cuts so square I do not have too square it on my table saw.I can cut a full set of kitchen cabinet bases in about a half hour.If your thinking about one go for it! I have found this saw to be very accurate, and easy to use. I have owned it for about a year, and use it far more than I though I would. It makes it very easy to cut a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood. It is however not very portable. I ussually measure up what I need to cut at the job site, and take the work to my shop.

I didn't purchase this item from Amazon because my local Woodwerks store takes such good care of me. I consider myself a professional finish carpenter and own many tools from Festool, Makita, Hitachi, etc. I am not a hobbyist. I bought the saw, the extensions set, stop set, folding stand, and vac kit. This tool is pretty amazing when used as it was intended. It is supposed to come perfectly square/aligned out of the box but this certainly was NOT the case for this particular saw. That's the reason for 4 stars vs. 5. It took me probably a hour to correct this problem. Also note that I put an $80 Tenyru blade on this saw based on the recommendation from the owner of Woodwerks. I will give you an example of how wonderful this saw is.... Yesterday I completed (less the drawers) a 12' x 8' built in. This included a 10 drawer dresser, 2 large wardrobes with cubbies above, and a 4 x 4 recessed cabinet to mount a tv. Not crazy complex but not simple do to the fact the larger cabinets are cut to size but cant be assembled due to the stairway in this old home being so narrow. I used 9 sheets of 3/4 birch plywood and 4 sheets of 1/4". Once I built my face frames I established my cut list for 3/4. I was able to rip all my sheet good, set the stop for cross cutting and had all of this done in less than 30 minutes. Try that with a table saw and SCMS or Festool track saw. The beauty was I never once had to use a tape measure. Once the saw is set up accurately all you have to do is set to the dimension you desire and cut away with confidence. The dust kit catches probably 95% of the waste since you are able to get the dust tube right down on the material you are cutting. Please note that the new saws come with a dust hood that's already ported for the vacuum hose and the new dust kit is $199 vs the the $300+ on Amazon. PROs 1) no measuring 2) great dust collection 3) eliminates need for extensions on table saw, and danger it imposes 4) saw takes up little space in the shop 5) quickly and accurately switch from rip to crosscut (less than 2 seconds) 6) cuts are super clean if you buy the correct blade CONs 1) little cumbersome loading plywood onto the saw (not as bad as the table saw however) 2) saw wasn't square when I received but what saw is???? 3) I feel the saw should come with the extensions included. There is no way to rip and 8' sheet without them. Hope this review helps. I highly recommend this saw to anyone cutting a lot of sheet goods and would buy it again w/o any hesitation. Jeff
