works best if you cool down the pipe with iceblocks first
I was very ambivalent about this given the reviews and I was fully prepared to encounter a non-stop fountain of water coming out when I cut the copper pipe, but the freezing worked! I had to install service valves on central heating pipes; some key things I believe helped: 1) I made sure the heating (and pump obviously) was off for a day or so before attempting this, so that the water was room temperature, 2) I bled the system so there was no pressure in the pipes (otherwise iceplug may be pushed out), 3) I first cooled down the pipe section with icecubes around the pipe to bring the temperature down as much as I could before applying the jacket and cooling liquid; I got the temperature of the pipe down to about 6 C (on a warm summer day!) before starting with the cooling liquid. I used a food thermometer to check: the temperature of the pipe inside the jacket dropped to -18 C; I let that sit for about 5-10 minutes and when I cut the pipe next to the jacket there was a perfect iceplug formed inside and I was able to mount the service valve with ease, no water coming out whatsoever.

Does what it says on the Tin!
I heeded to install a new radiator in the downstairs toilet and didn't want the hassle of draining down the whole system, especially given the fact its freezing cold. I saw this product and read the reviews and thought I'll give it a go. The instructions said that it would freeze one pipe so as it was plastic 10mm heating pipe and it was possible to get both inside the jacket. I gave it a go. It took 3 minutes for the ice plug to form and I was able to trim the pipes insert new collets and connect via a 10mm - 15mm connector to copper and the new radiator. The whole process took 15 minutes including the freeze time and the plug defrosted after 23 minutes. All done, no water anywhere and now subsequent leaks. So for the DIY enthusiast this is a great product good value and easy to use, it does what it says on the tin and definitely something I'll have in my useful things cupboard for the future. Impressed is an understatement

Perfect easy to use
Have used this product before, hence why happy to use again. Very easy to use and freeze stayed effective long enough that I did not have to rush the repair. If I had to offer one bit of advice, have spare cable ties, to secure the sleeve. This item came with only 1 cable tie, which is fine if you are freezing a vertical pipe but not so clever if you are working on horizontal pipework, which requires a tie at both ends of the sleeve.

Tricky
Used on a vertical pipe the liquid kept running out the bottom despite extra ties. Wasnt sure if it had worked, but it had, however needed whole can for one freeze.

Dont waste your money
I purchased this to replace a thermostatic radiator valve which is literally a 2min job once the water is off. Not wanting to drain the entire system, I thought this product looked ideal. I used it horizontally, tie wrapped securely, made a hold as instructed and then squirted in the entire canister. Waited 5min, and then slowly unscrewed the fitting to find that this product had achieved nothing. Water was flowing through with the same pressure as normal so couldnt complete the job. I checked the pipe and although it was cold, it definitely hadnt frozen the pipe. Central heating wasnt warm as hadnt been on for over a week, all pumps turned off etc. So followed instructions to the letter. I would avoid this product, it may have worked with 2 bottles of the product, but definately doesnt work with a single can on a 15mm pipe.

Worked really well
The price of the refrigerant is shocking. So I bought 2 of the cheapest kits they do. Each kit comes with a 150ml can of refrigerant. I used a whole can for each 15mm pipe, maybe overkill but better than a flood. It worked fine. I watched a few videos of other people using it first. Hilarious. One guy froze the pipe and then cut on the pressure side of the freeze, chuckle... (don't do that)

It works well
My task was to change leaking insert in towel rail valve without draining the whole heating system. In my case since copper pipe from the wall was not long (it was 3-5 cm) I had to cut isolation sleeve to my length and I was able to freeze even such a short pipe and it did stop water. I can’t say how long pipe would stay frozen because after unscrewing valve insert I installed replacement in 1-2 minutes. In my case it worked and I am happy with purchase. Also follow instructions!
