Does the battery door shut the whole way? If it does I just can't imagine it not damaging the cable.

Yes, you may close the battery door completely. The black cable you see connecting to the battery to the power source is a thin, flat plastic-like cable-similar to what may be used on a circuit board. I have been using for two years and have not had an issue

It only works for Arlo HD Security Camera.

Will the camera still be waterproof with the cord coming out of it like that??

Yes, the wire coming out is thin but strong. Mine have been installed for 3 years and never a problem with rain or snow.
