Why is this so expensive? It's a puzzle

It is really an extremely well made puzzle that captures the attention of toddlers, and therefore will be desired and often played with more toddlers than most other puzzles, at least in my opinion. In fact, it will be played with by many, many children throughout many, many years, provided of course the pieces are kept together when not in use. That being said, the higher the quality and interest the greater the cost!

Does each piece have a knob?

Yes, each puzzle piece has a knob. The knobs are handy for new puzzlers in that the allow the child to more easily turn the puzzle pieces to make them fit. They fit well in small hands. The knobs also make puzzle clean up a faster job! I got one knob farm animal puzzle and it was great for learning farm animals at 12 months. We got this transportation puzzle for my grandson at 20 months and he loves it!
