A Dream Come True - Russian Language with English Subtitles.

Galactic scifi flick. Iron curtain cool

At just over an hour, A Dream Come True is slight but doesn't wear out its welcome. A tale of heroic cosmonauts struggling to rescue aliens that have crash landed on Mars is highlighted by some great special effects and visuals and less-great heroic spaceman anthems. Unfortunately, the non-optional subtitles are huge and break weirdly, sometimes covering over half the screen. Given that the visual effects are the highlight, it's a shame they are so often buried under mountains of text that can't be removed or reduced in size. A shame, since the picture quality beneath them is quite good.

I enjoyed watching this film, and found it pretty darned entertaining.(But it is spoken in Russian with English subtitles, and that may annoy some viewers.)That said, there's quite a bit of visual spectacle in this movie. In fact, many of the special effects remind me of the marvelous MGM feature Forbidden Planet (1956). There are colorfully dynamic visuals of an alien planet, images of a huge extraterrestrial starship and its crew and vast technology, and a Soviet era space center with enormous statues, and launching pads stretching to the horizon. In fact, pretty much everything in this film is BIG -- big, colorful, sparkling, and pulsing with energy.I should add, though, that some of the acting is fairly wooden, and parts of the dialogue are stilted. Of course, we're reading the on-screen dialogue in translation, so that may very well have something to do with its clunky feel. Also, there seem to be an awful lot of scenes with cosmonauts standing around, looking tough, and staring silently into the distance. And, as other reviewers have noted, some of the songs and music are a bit silly and over the top.The plot, though, is pretty straightforward: aliens listen to an earth song by radio waves, and send an expedition to our solar system to learn more about us, but end up crashing on Mars. So, the Russian space agency sends a rescue team via a moon-base to save the ETs. But is it all a daydream? You decide. (The title of the movie may give you a clue.)And, by the way, another thing I did like a lot was the "space-tonalities" used on the soundtrack. Similar to the eerie beeps and boops in Forbidden Planet, these space tinkles and tones add a great deal to the eerie and otherworldly atmosphere of the film.All in all, this was a striking and engaging movie, full of some marvelous off-world imagery. I'm happy to give it four stars. And, frankly, if it were longer than just an hour, I would have given it the full five stars.

An OK early 60's, Russian-made Sci-fi film with English subtitles. The Russian equivalent of NASA sends out signals, including a sweet song, into outer space. Human aliens hear the song, become fascinated, and head out toward Earth. They crash land on Mars and one of its satellites, and the race is on by Earthers to reach them before it's too late. Just about an hour long and has minimal sci-fi action and no scary terror. Some of the special effects are interesting. The scenes on the alien planet are particularly good. Bits and pieces of this film were used by Roger Corman for his production of Queen of Blood (aka Planet of Blood). I viewed the PR Studios DVD-R, but it would be nice to get a fine quality DVD. Not bad, worth a view.

Popped it into the player. It played for 30 seconds or so, then black screen. I’d request a refund/return but I just returned another dvd from same seller— it just played a black screen. So, lesson learned.

A decent, hour-long movie around the theme of First Contact.This time, humans save the alien!But, at the end, the director pulls the old trite trick on us; " it was all a day-dream"!

This Russian Movie Is So Unique It's Hard To Rate Or Categorize. Definitely more interesting than the American International Hybrid 'Queen Of Blood.' The High Quality Of The Print Alone Makes It Worth Checking Out For Sci-Fi Fans.
