HearthSong Hook and Loop Potholder Set with Loom, Weaving Hook, and 115 Cotton Loops (Makes Three Potholders)

I love everything about this potholder maker! I had one when I was a kid and I’m 66! Not only does a lucky girl get a gift, but she can gift someone with potholders she makes. It will make her feel so good about herself doing that. Buy more potholder threads. She’ll want them.

I think the metal loom and cotton loops were over priced. The loom needs to be better designed to keep the loops on the frame. I think a 10 inch loom would be better and easier to use than this 7 inch size.

This blue potholder is made in China and unlike the Friendly Loom Potholder weaver, the pins in the Hearthsong loom are straight up, with no outward slant to hold tension in the loop ends. Plus the Hearthsong loops were of good fiber with cotton and lycra, but too stretchy and consistently popped off the loom pins. I had to use rubber bands to hold down each loop crosswise while weaving and I am an adult. It would be nearly impossible for a child to keep the loops on the loom. The Friendly Loom brand is durable and easy to use. Also the Harrisville cotton/lycra loops that come with it are at custom fit for the loom.

My 5-year-old grandson expressed an interest in weaving, so I gave him this potholder set for Christmas as an introduction. After he opened the present, just about every adult in the room said "I had one of those when I was a kid" and went on to reminisce about it. Boosted by that, he started right in on it, and has been going back to it when there's a lull in Christmas vacation activities. It absorbs him, quiets him, and draws him in to concentrate on getting the alternate patterning correct. He's quite proud of his creations, and I can see I'm going to have to order more loops soon! The loom is sturdy, and the loops are consistently sized and cut. Very good quality set.

This looks took me back to my childhood. I had one as a girl. I'm now 59 and it is still just as much fun. I have loom potholders I use now that I made 50 years ago.

Not the quality of product that I was expecting. The hook is very flimsy and bends easily. (See photo). The hook also has a slight burr on it and it stage the loops as it is weaving through the loops. The loops are nice but seem to be a little long for the loom, (they opt off easily), or maybe the loom hooks are a little short. So sad!!!

I love the cotton loops. I make pot holders with them. I can do this craft while sitting in recliner resting.
