Classic Radio Broadcasts: 1968 saw The Doors arrive at the height of their fame. The press were hailing the band as America s Rolling Stones , their eponymous debut album had been voted the second best album of the year 1967 by The Village Voice, behind only The Beatles Sergeant Pepper, and Jim Morrison had been voted Vocalist of The Year. In July, their third album, Waiting For The Sun and the single Hello, I Love You both hit number 1 and broke the band in Europe. Yet all was not well. The recording of Waiting For The Sun had been a fraught experience. Morrison had exhausted much of the material that he had accumulated prior to 67 and had struggled to generate new ideas. Recent live performances had seen him drunk, high and belligerent, provoking both his audience and the authorities, and confounding his band mates. When Morrison finally announced his intention to quit the group just weeks before the start of their first European tour, Ray Manzarek had to persuade him to postpone his decision for a further six months. Yet it was a tour that completely revitalized both Morrison and the band. In the UK, the British press and public gave the band a rapturous welcome and the heaviness that had blighted recent months back home in the US instantly lifted. Their opening gigs at The Roundhouse in Camden became the stuff of rock legend, with Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood all present to see The Doors bring the house down. The trend continued across dates in Germany, Holland and Denmark before The Doors, supported by Jefferson Airplane, took to the stage at The Stockholm Concert Hall in Sweden for their final tour performances later remembered by The Doors as amongst the finest gigs that they ever played. Stockholm Serenade presents the complete recordings from Konserthuset, Stockholm on September 20th, 1968, the final, legendary shows of The Doors only European tour and one of the most important moments in the band s singular story. Cd2 saves the day
I own lots of the doors all on cd. One of my all time favourite bands. I have just bought a copy of stockholm serenade and am writing this while listening to cd1. So far very dissapointed !. Whoever recorded this was working in the wrong field. That would be a few fields away where jim was singing from !Am now on to light my fire (track 7) sound quality picking up. The unknown soldier also much better. Cd2 starting like jim has come back to us. Yes cd2 has saved this from never been played again. I think been spoilt on the likes of the felt forum box can't help

Horrible sound quality
On 1 long song the vocals can barely be heard. Shameful in this day and age they would sell a cd of this bad quality. No, there is nothing wrong with my stereo and it is far from "junk". The recording engineers must have been plastered, lol.

Bien sûr on retrouve 3 morceaux communs aux 2 prestations : Five to one (pour débuter), When the music’s over (autre grand moment) et Light my fire.

1968 Doors-concert
Hello ! Songs like You`re lost little girl an Love street (from the early albums Strange daysan Waiting for the sun ) now in live -versions,can hardly be found on other Doors in concert-albums.Light my fire can be heard in many versions on other live-albums. Another track,Five to one, startswith John Densmores solid drum-work and Robby Krieger plays skilfully on both intro to The end andon Wild child..Ray Manzarek(organ) and Jim Morrison(vocals) gives the brand to their sound. Regards/Christer.
