Best Mousetrap I've Found!
I have probably bought every model of the tomcat/ humane mousetraps at Menards/lowes over this last winter to catch mice. Personally, it freaks me out when there's a lot of pee and poop in them and after I bring them back after our trek to set them free, so I wash and give them a diluted bleach bath in the sink. This probably acerbates the problem I had had and leads to the traps I buy stop working. In no way am I trying to hate on hardware store brands at all, just sharing my experience. For me, they all work about once or twice for me. I hate the thought of poop and pee in the air and affecting our health any more than the stuff that they’re leaving in the walls already. I might be nuts. I have to wash them, though. My husband thinks I’m crazy, and I’m probably driving him crazy with my annoying purchases. BUT I MUST WASH. So, they stop working as effectively. So, I’ve bought the spring loaded one with the windy wheel that has worked the best, but I went through 2 of those and then couldn’t find them anymore, and moved on to the model with the trapdoors, to the single mouse model that’s all black one that just works on gravity, and finally, those green see-through single-mouse ones. They all work -ish. The single catchers don’t work so well for me as the bigger ones do. Plus, I always have severe anxiety scaredy pants about opening them up to release the mice. I try and put as much distance between the trap and myself when I open it so they can run and jump out. I stopped buying the single mouse catcher ones for that reason. Call me a weenie but the mousies are scared, I’m scared, and 4 inches of distance and 2 shaky gloved hands isn’t doing anyone any good. I was getting so sick of buying them, cleaning out all their little nooks and hidden crevices and having to transport the mousies and then back home to reset it to find it wasn’t really working. (I know. Stop washing it. BUT I CANT) Then we got a raccoon family moving in to a shed, and had to rehome them and buy some live traps. Which are amazing and work beautifully. We caught birds, a cat, even a snake slithered in and was caught in the wire live trap raccoon cage. It’s easy to clean as it’s all just grated metal and I was amazed that I could put buckets of soap and hose it off and it was good to go and we used them for quite a while. … I wished they made one for mice. Then I googled! And found this. It only catches one at a time, but it’s flawless. One could say it’s silly and too large for just one mouse, but the bigger the contraption and the larger the distance between the door you open and the mouse the better I say. Picture an average sized shoebox. Pretty large, but not cumbersome to handle. I can catch the mice, put them in a dishwash tray to transport in the back of the car so that pees and poops don’t get everywhere, and the whole thing is mesh so you can see and not worry about air quality or anything like that. (One aspect I hated was that when I would catch mice in the other humane traps they’d be all wet from their own pee and poops from being in such a small space. This solves that!) I put an unopened ziplock gallon bag, and then folded paper towels, and then the trap on that. Once there’s a mouse, you can just lift it up, put it on or in something plastic (I use dishwash tray) and put it in the car. Then just pick up the paper towel and ziplock bags and throw it out. Clean! The best thing is that I’ve found that it’s solidly built for it’s function. I have washed and reset this prob 10-15 times with no mechanism failure on the spring or anything. Still good to go. Love it. It’s not rusting, metal is not weird getting weird and still is sensitive for the trigger. It opens really easily for when the mouse is gonna be let go so that you can run away from it too! : ) It’s solidly built for mice, chipmunks, small things. I would definitely not get this for a squirrel or a large rat not to harm the metal if they were caught in this. A possum or weasel would destroy it. I would also venture to guess that if left, a rat or a mouse could chew through the wires, it’s honestly pretty thin material. However, I think mice can chew threw pretty much anything (wood!) so check your traps I’d say. I haven’t had any mouse damage and I’ve probably caught 10 of them. I am very very happy over this $20 mousetrap. Thanks guys! A+ product for mice catchin’! PS- WHY ISN’T THIS AT WALMART AND MENARDS in the mousie aisle! It should be!!!

Flimsy construction, but works BRILLIANTLY and really is humane
Short version - this thing works, and it works outstandingly well. The small size is plenty large to hold a house mouse while still allowing it to move around and breathe, and the holes in the wire mesh are plenty small to hold even the smallest mouse. Construction quality is adequate but fairly flimsy, and if you're like me, you'll initially think that you got ripped off when you pull this out of the shipping box...but then use it, and I bet that you'll love it, too. I thought that I'd four star this, but it works so amazingly well, that I wholeheartedly recommend this. It's amazing. Longer version...this is _exactly_ what I was looking for. I wanted a trap that wouldn't have the door snap down on the mouse's tail (like some reviews of the smaller Havahart model mentioned), was large enough to let them move around, and had plenty of air holes. While I didn't want mice in my attic, I didn't want to kill or maim them. As for effectiveness, it caught the first mouse in under 40 minutes of me putting this up in the attic. I was amazed at the quickness of it, but I did put it up there around when I knew they started getting active in the late afternoon. I relocated that mouse (cute little thing, btw) to a natural area a couple of blocks away, then reset the trap. It was also just under 40 minutes later that the second mouse got trapped. I brought it to the same spot as the other mouse, reset the trap, and haven't seen/heard any more activity so far. The mice had a lot of room to move around, but the trap is nice and light and easy to carry, so it wasn't a burden to relocate them. When the door is closed, there is a good handle to use to keep your hand away from the mouse. Needless to say, the mice were a little scared and trying to get out, but mine didn't move around a whole lot. Once you find the spot to relocate them, it's easy to open the door without having your hand near the mouse, too. I placed a couple of night vision cameras up in my attic to look at the trap so that I could monitor if anything got stuck inside, as I didn't want a mouse to be stuck for hours. Turns out, I didn't need them because I could easily hear the door shut. The trap is rather quiet when it shuts on a solid concrete floor (it's not a loud snapping sound at all), but it made a loud noise when it snapped shut on the plywood flooring in my attic. This is SO much better than the Mice Cube 4 Pk - Reusable Humane Mouse Trap that I got a couple of months ago. They cost half as much for a four pack, but they didn't work for me at all. One mouse couldn't figure out how to get the plastic door open, and the other mouse was large enough to get in and out without the door closing. I'm honestly relieved that they didn't get trapped in them because after watching the video of them around those traps, they would have been completely pinned inside without anyway to move. I don't recommend those. As others have mentioned, these are made out of the thin aluminum and can bend easily. Mine arrived with two sides bent inward quite a bit, which bothered me for the price paid. However, I was able to fairly quickly bend them back out enough that it was usable (not perfectly shaped, but not too bad). What makes them easily bent in shipping also makes them easy to reshape. The included instruction sheet is not in English, but the seller (TheAtomicBarbie) e-mailed me both a PDF and a JPEG file of the instructions in English the same day that I ordered mine. They also stated to check the item for damage caused in shipping, and that they'd make things right if there were any problems. Because I could reshape mine, and because I wanted the mice out of the attic, I didn't take them up on it. I seriously couldn't recommend these any more highly. I really wish that I would have bought this several months ago. Two huge thumbs up.

Easy to set and does the job
We tried the Havahart 1020 to capture our resident desert Kangaroo rat that got stuck in our ranch house after we blocked all their secret doors. The Havahart worked great at catching, not so great at keeping. Our clever Kanga was able to slip right out again in seconds. Bought this AB trap on the recommendation of a rodent trapping expert. It worked! We set the trap and buckled it open for a night with sunflower seed bait to accustom Kanga to going in and getting a good meal. The clip that lets you lock the trap open is especially handy so you don't have to hunt around for zip ties or string to tie it open. Ordinarily I'd keep it this way for a few more nights, but I had already determined that our little guy was pretty willing to enter the trap. On night 2 I set a live trap. The trigger is very easy, intuitive and simple to set, and you can adjust sensitivity by where on the loop you place the trigger rod. One trick I used was to put a piece of thin cardboard in the bottom of the trap with a flap folded up just in front of the trigger plate. This makes the animal climb over the cardboard to reach bait placed in the very back of the trap and increases the likelihood it will contact the plate instead of reaching past it to snag the bait without triggering. A couple of seeds in a trail invite him in to get the big payoff at the very back. Kanga couldn't resist and got caught, and our intrepid dog barked me awake so I could attend to the matter before he had time to figure out his escape. The spring tensioned door closes firmly and leaves no gaps, although it is possible to pull the locked door back out slightly with your fingers which does leave a very small gap. With most creatures this won't be an issue, but I can't say whether, given enough time, the amazingly clever Kanga wouldn't be able to squeeze out. It doesn't look like they could but kangaroo rats are wonderfully capable, it's part of what I love about them. I mention this only for people who might be dealing with this species, which are smart and strong for their tiny size and can flatten themselves thin enough to fit through tiny openings. In actual practice, this trap worked flawlessly and allowed me to release our unwanted roomie outside unharmed near sheltering vegetation and some existing rodent burrows. I adore them and cannot bear the thought of killing them, even though they wreck havoc indoors. I will also mention that kangaroo rats have long tails that tend to get caught in trap doors, but this unit is long enough to prevent that. The trap is lightly built and the welds are not very robust, but it is sturdy enough for the purpose and with gentle handling should last well. We received it quickly after ordering, it worked great and I am pleased. Worth the very reasonable price and I definitely recommend.
