Review: Very Easy! - I bought this so I could check the internal temperature when cooking a lot of mixed food items on the bbq. I normally use a Meater probe which is brilliant for large single pieces of meat that require a longer cook. This is great for when you have lots of different items on the bbq. The advantage of the Javelin is that you can quickly jump between burgers, steaks, sausages, and anything else you happen to be cooking. The response time is fairly quick and the build quality seems good. The temperature reading can be toggled between Fahrenheit and Celsius by changing the tiny switch in the battery compartment. I've used cheaper meat thermometers but I think this hits the sweet spot with a good combination of quality and value.
Review: Great thermometer- but has one design flaw. - This is the second one of these thermometers I’ve purchased. First one is still going strong on original battery. As a left hander I do have to read it upside down, but it’s easy to read either way. Being of US origin it’s set to F’ and changing to C’ requires the battery to be removed. This is my only criticism. Once the compartment is opened the battery is buried deep inside the unit it does not drop out, fall out, or even pull out with the aid of a piece of tape. In the end I had to tap the body of the thermometer on the edge of a wooden table several times to get the battery to drop out of the compartment. I’d forgotten this issue when I purchased first one. Makers really need to offer instructions on how to take battery out without use ‘violence’.

**Q: How long is the probe?  Can it easily reach in the center of a big roast or a loaf of bread?**
A: From the description on the Amazon website page....the probe is 2.8" long. I find that more than adequate to reach the center of most any cut of meat I cook.

**Q: I want to brew green teas (160-200F water typically). Can anyone verify how quickly and accurately it works in this range? Thanks!**
A: these thermometers will typically work up to about 400 F, so if you want to check the temperature of cooking oil for frying, you can do that.  Thermapens do,  double check the specs on this.

**Q: can you calibrate this thermometer**
A: No, and ours is reading +110° after a couple of years.

**Q: It looks like a pocketknife.  Does the probe go in and out like a pocketknife?**
A: Yes just folds up like a pocket knife.

Super useful tool and such a small cost to reduce errors in cooking meat to correct temperature. I purchased one of these a couple years ago and is still on its original battery.
