Retique It Liquid Wood - Real Wood Coating (8oz / Light)

When refinishing this coffee table, I found out the curved edge of the table top was MDF, rather than wood. I knew it would not take a stain as well there and it's a noticeable part of the table. I almost gave up and thought about painting the piece, but I'm loving a raw wood look right now. Fortunately I found this product! So easy to apply....just paint it on. I did put a light coat of stain on it after 2 coats, and finished with a polycrylic. I love how it turned out, especially considering I thought I'd have to resort to painting. Awesome product!

After scuffing with 120 grit sandpaper, I painted over the old fireplace surround with “retique it light wood”. Coated entire fireplace surround using every bit of an 8oz can. I then followed up with a grain tool over a thin wet coat of “retique it dark wood”. After letting this cure for 4 hours (and some persuasion with the heat gun), I brushed on a NON penetrating (very important that you do not use penetrating) stain then once dry, a matte polyurethane topcoat. Taping the wall and stone base took most of the time. This is my first experience using any of these products and did not practice at all before starting this job. Spend some time watching youtube videos and you should be good. No steps were difficult or technical at all, just a little time consuming working slowly to not make any mistakes like missing any spots or wasting materials because i ordered a little less than i was comfortable with. I have turned down so many neighbors and friends (that asked me to do this for them). On to the next project.. 😀

I used this on my mantel and some side tables. The base is a little bit more yellow then I would like. But the product works great. Just what I needed. I will possible try the other colors for a none yellow base.

I have now ‘painted’ my object with this but not stained so no critique there but HOLY CRAP this is the absolute worst smelling product I have ever touched. While it advises not to breathe it in as a mist, and as someone with sensory issues that mean I won’t out a mask on unless it is absolutely needed….i lasted 30 seconds before I put a kn95 mask on bc it was so awful. And pray that you live on property you own that you don’t have to worry about leaving whatever you cover with liquid wood , outside I had to put mine back In the garage and now the smell of my garage makes me want to keel over

I bought this to paint a frame so it would look like wood. It turned out well. I did not know that it could be stained as well. I probably will try it on other projects too.

Great product! Although I do wish it weren't so expensive. Used it on an antique desk that had a really rough top. Nail polish remover, nail polish damage to the top. Two coats covered the damage. Stained it a dark color, looks so much better! For some reason the liquid wood did bubble up a little bit in a couple spots. But I used some fine sandpaper prior to staining it and it looks like small imperfections in the wood. Very happy with my project.

I am pretty bummed about this purchase. This stuff isn't cheap, I bought the small can of light wood to test on a bathroom countertop. Opening the can, I knew something was off. It was solid. Like clay. The can instructs to stir until smooth and then apply. I stirred until my hands cramped up and it never got 'smooth'. And it would not 'paint' on. The wood particles went on like spongey mess and clumped up. I used every brush i owned to try and work the product. It wouldn't go on. Just a mess of spongey brown. I cleaned the counters with tsp the day before, so it wasn't a surface issue. I would like my money back for sure.

The most amazing product for do-it-your-selfers and flippers! It's so fun, and does not require any artistic talent. Just follow instructional video, don't overthink it, and move quickly! I started on a trim board made from MDF board that was painted shiny white, and became addicted to wood graining everything!
