Czech & Slovak Food & Cooking

This has some great recipes I was able to share with my mom who is Slovak and she was able to compare them to what she is familiar with cooking or growing up with. The pictures are great. I've already attempted a few of these and all have turned out great.

I'm of Czech heritage but knew very little about anything Czech and I believe food is one of the best ways to find out about a culture and this book is great, full of wonderful recipes and has a surprising amount of info about Czech and Slovak culture and history. I fully recommend this book to anyone looking into their Czech or Slovak past.

Great recipes for my Slovak relatives as well as my non-Slovak relatives to enjoy. Each recipe has a photo and easy-to-follow directions. I bought a second copy for my Slovak mother and she loves it.

Though the recipes are very close, the lack of correct ingredients forced the author to show substitutions that are not 100% authentic. We've made many of the dishes represented in this book, and they are tasty and easy to prepare. The best part of this cookbook is the photographs. No other Czech or Slovak cookbook even comes close.

My wife is from the Czech Republic and remembers many of these recipes. Her parents looked at it and are going to order their own copy. Great pictures also. The culture and history portion in the beginning of the book is nice, but not necessary in my opinion. I would have liked to have seen more recipes, but the amount presented is good.

This has some really good Slovak Meals in it. Meals I remember my Grandmom cooking and baking. If my grandpop was here he would yell at me for having the "Czech" on the book. it was just him cuz he was always mistaken for a Czech and not a Slovak and it would make him crazy. Buy it, the smells will take you back.

jak se mas!I was very happy with the purchase and really enjoyed reading the historical introduction of the region. I had the pleasure of being raised by my great grandmother and many of these recipes and methods remind me so much of her already. Nothing will replace her cooking, but this will surely take me back.

Not without some merit, but this is not a very good cookbook, and certainly not for an amateur cook. Many of the recipes skip important steps or are terribly vaguely written, perhaps problems with either the writing or editing of this book.Not really worth the money, you could get better Czech and Slovak cooking advice from the internet.Overall a disappointment.
