An outstanding and well reserached book. Non-political about the karate styles in Naha Okinawa.
I just received this book and it is outstanding! I have to echo another reader's sentiments, that every Goju Ryu instructor needs to have this book in their possession. Yes, you may not agree with everything that the author has written or researched, but I believe that it non-political oriented, very well researched, very detailed and includes alot of information about other systems as well that we hardly have information on as well as other instructors. I have seen this book advertised for several years now and I have passed it up. I thought that is would be a rehash of the same old stuff like what is found in other Goju Ryu books, etc. But it is not. OUTSTANDING WORK! Buy the book.

Great for historical research
As a lifelong martial artist, yudansha in Okinawan karate and kobudo as well as other systems, this was an excellent resource for those who don't just practice karate, but also study it in depth.

greatest book ever written on history of Naha Karate
THIS BOOK SHOULD BE IN THE POSSESSION OF EVERY GOJU TEACHER IN THE WORLD. IT IS WELL RESEARCHED AND DOCUMENTED WITH FOOTNOTES. HAS REFERENCE TO JUST ABOUT EVERY ARTICLE AND BOOK EVER WRITTEN ON GOJU AND NAHA-TE STYLE KARATE. FOR 40 YEARS I HAVE READ EVERYTHING I COULD GET MY HANDS ON ABOUT GOJU HISTORY AND THIS IS BY FAR THE MOST COMPLETE HISTORY IN TERMS OF COMBINING ALL THE KNOWN RESEARCH IN THE ENGLISH AND JAPANESE LANGUAGES. IT WILL HELP YOU UNDERSTAND THE TRUE KARATE AND HOW IT DEVELOPED. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED

Nice book. I have read most all of the ...
Nice book. I have read most all of the Goju Ryu/Naha-te history type books including the Bubushi. If you want a good overall background on how all this material we enjoy today got solidified over time, this is a good book. I would call this a must have for senior person in the Naha-te circles.

Vol. Two Major Naha-te Styles
Nicely written. Very informative. Could have spent more time with Motobu-ryu. Probably didn't have much access to the families who still teach these methods of Okinawa-te.

Karate history !
Due to my passionate interest in the origins of Okinawan karate I just had to have this book.It did not disappoint! Well researched ,well written (shame about the odd typo but that is the editor's fault not the authors),very readable.A truly worthwhile addition to any serious karateka's library.

The best book on karate history so far
The best book on karate history so far. It cites his sources. It uses crossed reference sources as much as possible. This is the work of a scientific, not the bull**** history of a "greatgrandmaster".

Great book on Okinawan Karate history
This is a very well written book on history that is really hard to figure out. I'm sure not all is accurate but on Okinawan Karate history nothing was ever written down through the ages. Recommend the book good read.
