Incredibly bright yet energy efficient; worth the upgrade from Maglite's entry-level 2-D cell model
Wow! Fabulously clean, bright light from this 2-D cell flashlight with three switchable brightness levels. The "economy" mode seems to be at least as bright as a 2-D cell incandescent flashlight yet the batteries are claimed to last 120 hours. At the brightest setting, the beam is nothing short of intense -- illuminating things even in daylight with a claimed 6+ hour battery life. This particular Maglite is about twice the price of the entry-level Maglite 2-D cell model but worth the upgrade. The entry level model supports a single illumination level and drains the batteries in about two hours.

Let there be light!
This is one bright flashlight! Amazing and a spoiler, you don't want to use any other light once you have this one. Haven't had it long enough to judge battery life, but also don't leave it on full that much. It is lighter... in weight and smaller than my Mag LED Pro, nor would it stand up as a baton that well. Beam doesn't focus quite as tight either, which may be good so it doesn't burn holes in stuff. The switch is much better as well, the switch on my Mag Pro was replaced once and is still flaky. This one is electronic with a light touch.Highly recommended and I will be buying more.

Get what you pay for
I have almost a dozen cheapo flashlights around the house. Do they ever work when you need them? HA! The answer is no. Have the large one for the house that is at least 10 years old. Bought this smaller one for the glove box. Solid, dependable.

Bright, Solid Flashlight
I really like this flashlight. The 2 D-cell LED upgrade is a lot brighter than the old 4 D-cell (incandescent) Maglites that my buddies and I used for camping years ago. And it is considerably lighter in weight with half the batteries, but still a nice hefty flashlight. However, this ML300L did not come in the same packaging that was shown in the ad. The ad states it is 524 lumens, but the box it came in (not the blister-pack as shown) rates the light at 487 lumens. It also labels it as “3rd Gen.” The difference in 37 lumens is negligible - and I probably wouldn’t know the difference anyway. It’s still plenty bright. (Note: The Maglite website rates this model at 487 lumens, so maybe the seller's page might be edited to correct this.)One ‘con’ I might list is that the difference between flood and spot - when you adjust the lens - isn’t very significant. But all in all, the discount price was great and it shipped very promptly, even arriving a day early. I’ve had more expensive rechargeable flashlights that are not as good as this Maglite. I would recommend it.

I have SEEN the light!
Oh yes, oh yes!And it is a Beautiful Light! It is a 487 Lumens LED light.Pure as the driven snow, bright as the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.True, once upon a time I dreamed I could see a 524 Lumens LED light.I dreamed I could have such a light for my very own.And in that dream (I don’t know where I could have gotten such a crazy idea) I saw a light with the numbers “524” and the word “Lumens” hovering in close proximity to that light, almost as if it was something that truly existed, that you could even buy!Such are the illusions of crazy dreams. But here and now, wide awake, holding my brand spanking new 487 Lumens Maglite flashlight, I realize that a vision of a 524 Lumens Maglite is just not a reality.I am so happy I have my 487 Lumens Maglite flashlight. It is everything I ever hoped a 524 Lumens flashlight could ever be!Its magical pure bright lacuna light has succeeded in erasing my memories of ever believing in a world where I could ever want or need a 524 Lumens flashlight.
