12pc Carving Set and 15oz Carving Mallet Starter Bundle

I'm relatively new to carving with chisels. I wanted to get some experience using them without having to fork out a small fortune. The chisels are a good quality and mine were very sharp when I received them. The handles are a hard wood and feel good in the hand. The metal blades are hard and appear to hold their sharpness. I am still learning how to use the chisels and how to keep them sharpened. The chisel come in a handy and well constructed canvas roll-up case to protect the blades and make it easy for transporting. They are worth the money spent.

Not are not really to use

The media could not be loaded. Looking for something enjoyable and rewarding without paying a fortune for a complete set? Look no further than this one. I'm just beginning cut it out as you can see, took one hour, and my first attempt at carving anything. The mallet offers complete control and built my confidence very quickly as the tools are already very sharp. Protectively wrapped, in addition to being already in the individual pocketed carry bag. This wouldn't have been a fun undertaking if I had to spend thirty or more dollars for each tool.

I ordered some carving chisels from Schaaf and another company. Schaafs came well sharpened and polished.The other companies, which were more expensive looked like they used the roughest grinding wheel available to hack a tip on them. Not schaafs, theirs were shown care in their product in how they were prepared and shipped to the consumer.There was also a shipping mix up and Schaff took care of it. Buying various wood products it was refreshing to see a company that takes pride in what they make and stand behind it. I would recommend this company for your woodworking needs.

When I first got these I was all excited thinking I could finally get back into wood carving. No such luck. Upon examining the chisels I found 3 split handles. And most of the set, the shanks were off center with the handles. And either jammed in at an angle or way too far in. I could just imagine some little guy setting in a dark corner in a run down bamboo shack, Out back of the main factory. The brother in law of the CEO hired because of his wife. Not skilled enough to work in the main building. His job is installing handles. He is straddled around an old tree stump. A box of chisel blades on one side. A box of handles on the other. Him, squinting to see, and a big mallet waving in the air ready to slam the blade home in the handle.No excuses, that’s just how my mind works when I looked at how these chisels were assembled.

Asked my Wife to order.soo she said" you new better". Already have multple sets of gouges from couple different makers.....I can sharpen about anything.... But these....tried for 2 days on and off....with couple pair of glasses can see them dull on cedar...over 1/2 like that...RC 60---yeah right. They cant even get handles on straight. And also took advise of a couple of "unbiased " u tube woodcarvers....yup..Guess I would have gone in a dark tent in a carnival... If they dont want em back...gonna throw in the big plastic can. Dont want any more looks from my spouse.
